Xbox One Replacement Console Support Forums are a Nightmare: Many Issues

Karam Elahi reports from SpawnFirst: "In spite of all the issues that have been reported with the Xbox One (Green Screen of Death, defective optical drives, smoking issues, artifacting graphics, etc.), it seems like Microsoft are doing the right thing. They’re addressing each and every one of these issues with expediency and care, and are sending out replacement Xbox Ones to the afflicted parties involved. But many have reported quite the opposite."

lol...come on people. these articles arent gonna stop anyone from buying a xb1 no matter how many of theses you post. not surprised its from the same old journalist 99% of the time.

MegaRay4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

Pretty sad huh? People buy 500$ console without doing their research
And thats applies to ps4 and wiiu too.

SG1_dapunisherX4583d ago

Same can be say about ps4 is taking the risk. lucky both system Didn't brick on me

amiga-man4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

Belking we all know you would defend M$ no matter what crap they try and pull, the xbone was rushed, M$ do not make good hardware at the best of times so this was always a recipe for disaster.

Ricegum4583d ago

Belking should just buy a PS4, his temprament would be a whole lot better.

So what you are saying is that we should just sweep it under the rug and expect people to pay $500 for a console without doing any research? Why doesn't that surprise me coming from you?

Please, just once, read the damn article before you comment. I swear 99% of your comments are just quick, angry replies to something you haven't even bothered to look at properly.

bessy674583d ago

But the same is true for PS4. Both have similar, low failure rates. Sure some consoles are breaking but the vast majority of both are fine

amiga-man4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

bessy67

not sure how low the failure rate is for the xbox but I do know it is the first one I have seen on the net with smoke coming out of it, oh and a guy posting here sending his first one back and getting the replacement with the same exact same fault, fair to say he wasn't impressed

GTgamer4583d ago

@bessy tell me more about that X1 failure rate that MS has annoucned yet :/.

bessy674583d ago

Yeah, Spawnfirst has so much irrational hate for Xbox One. Not really sure what Xbox ever did to them.

rainslacker4583d ago

Eh, we have to deal with Polygon's hate of Sony, guess it's only fair you guys get Spawnfirst. At least Polygon is reasonably professional looking.

I've never seen SF before yesterday. Both Polygon and Spawnfirst deserve a ban on this site.

KingDadXVI4583d ago

SpawnFirst, ROFL. The Xbox One could be God and they would hate it. SpawnFirst and Gaming/Cinema Blend are the biggest Xbox One trolling sites out there. Pure click bate every time.

BelkingOfSony4583d ago

but belking, if these things are not reported, microsoft and other companies would think it's ok to make dodgy consoles and stuff. think before you write stuff, and that also includes your reply to my comment on this article http://n4g.com/news/1418535... . it's no surprise that you have one bubble

imdaboss14583d ago Show
HomerJDog4583d ago

the xbox service rep told me that the failure rate as of now was only 3 percent I know of a lot of people who got a xb1 and no one has issues. it's this website that makes it seem worse than what it is. everyone seem to forget that Sony has issues as well but u don't see that news here anymore.

SonyKong644583d ago Show
hellzsupernova4583d ago

Cause Sonys rate was 0.4% that's a huge amount less then Microsoft! Massive diffence especially considering the sales of millions of consoles

SLUG4583d ago

i had 4 ps4 and all had problems i hate sony so i buy a xbox one and had no problem and doing just fine with it

SniperControl4583d ago

@eyerom

You had four PS4's? All faulty?

Uh huh........ Whatever you say.

Have Microsoft released official failure rates of the xbone yet? Cause Sony has been completely transparent and honest about their console.

Makes me want to buy another one for the less fortunate so they too can play great games.

hellzsupernova4583d ago

There's plenty in stock so why don't you put your money where your mouth is

urwifeminder4583d ago

I don't know any sony gamers to buy one for.

4logpc4583d ago

Its a support forum....good grief.

GarrusVakarian4583d ago

Yeah it is, but getting a scratched, broken replacement consoles is not normal. Neither is having their order flat out cancelled multiple times. Things like this need to be known amongst gamers so they know what they could potentially have to deal with if something happens to their consoles.

Ron_Danger4583d ago

I love seeing how many disagrees you get with your comments! It's like they just see your name and click disagree.

To the MS fanboys that disagree with Lukas, you realize you're saying it's ok to receive faulty replacement hardware?!

Common sense isn't so common on N4G.

Good thing I'm supporting the winning team and always have since the original Tomb Raider and Resident Evil (my first Playstation games when I got one for Christmas in 1998)

GarrusVakarian4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

@Ron

Lol yeah, i speak way too much sense for some people on this website. Stealth disagrees are funny because it just shows they are butthurt and angry, they don't have a counter argument....so they press disagree lol.

SniperControl4583d ago

@Lukas

My 360 died on me about 18 months ago, unfortunately it was out of warranty so I bought a new one, after just 6 months the mobo died on that one. MS kindly agreed to exchange it for a new one, what I got however was a refurbished one, MS are refusing to exchange it for a new one., under the terms of the warranty, I should be entitled to a new one.

Cut a long story short, I contacted Trading Standards regarding the matter, they are currently in the process of starting court proceedings against MS.

I will have owned three 360's now, my launch PS3 is still going strong to this day.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio72d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing72d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9272d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit72d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing72d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9271d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn274d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers74d ago (Edited 74d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn273d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown74d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos74d ago (Edited 74d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay73d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay73d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac73d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger74d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300074d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde74d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood74d ago (Edited 74d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde73d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Reaper22_73d ago

Why would they pull out? They have the momentum. Sony has been getting nothing but bad news lately.
