'Warframe' on PS4: UI challenges

The third person shooter is making headway on Sony’s new console. Overall porting is smooth, save for the UI.

Digital Extremes’s free-to-play, sci-fi, action title, Warframe is currently being ported to PS4. So far, the studio has reported an easy go with the transition; though is finding challenges within the UI design, the company tells us.

The UI is always a key factor when porting a game from PC to consoles, i think Blizzard nailed with Diablo 3

DevilishSix4616d ago

Yes D3 was done very well on consoles and I have enjoyed the hell out of it.

I am interested in this game and I'm a sucker for ninjas and cyborgs etc. Can anyone tell me if this game plays well and is fun? I have no experience with it.

I've put about 5 hours in on PC...its pretty fun...

Its a sci-fi take on Left 4 Dead's co-op mostly...VERY fast paced...tons of action...but can get a bit repetitive...the weapons and abilites are great, but after you really get your melee attacks leveled up...the game really takes off...

the upgrades and everything are extremely deep...but, its F2P model is pretty strict...where as some free games allow you to easily grind past what you're expected to pay real money for...Warframe would take FOREVER to unlock and rank up certain things...some individual aspects are easy to move up in, but your overall character class and stuff almost HAS to have money pumped in to to really see the crazy options...

not that that is bad...if you pay half of what a retail game requires; you'll have enough credit in game to do all kinds of stuff...

but the core mechanics are great...and the mission structure makes it a great game to blast through for just 30 minutes or something...its not like every thing you do takes hours...

the boss fights are particularly fun when playing with friends...

I've put in about 100 hours. It's addictive and fun, but very redundant. The F2P elements are force fed at times, which I don't like, and the gameplay mechanics are often hindered by counter intuitive level designs.

At the same time, the combat is fun to use, shooting is spot on and the defense missions (surviving waves of enemies) are challenging, along with the upper tier planet stages.

It's mostly free to play, which is great if you want to just get a feel for the game, but later down the road you will be forced to spend cash if you wish to explore other aspects.

I like it, despite some of the above mentioned gripes and it's getting better with regular updates and hot-fixes.

thanks guys sounds interesting.

The main attractive feature for D3 on consoles though is that it's completely playable offline. I know I was mad gutted when I heard you needed a constant internet connection because I played the hell out of D1 & D2 offline single player.

So glad I held off from buying it. Playing the PS3 demo and really enjoyed it! Will probably get the PS4 version though.

DoomeDx4616d ago

Definatly.

I wonder how the PlanetSide 2 UI is gonna be.
Considering the PC version has lots and lots of buttons on screen which would only be possible with a mouse.

Maybe they use the touchpad or something? I dont know

nice to see this game finally made it. Hopefully it looks and runs smooth.

TGG_overlord49d ago

Very much so, and I sure hope so. I do recall that people pointed that out for System Shock as well (I think that problem has been solved now).

DivineHand12549d ago

I just downloaded it on my phone a few weeks ago and the framerate isn't bad if you set it to 60hz. I suspect the switch 2 version should fair better interms of performance.

TGG_overlord48d ago

From what I've seen so far, it runs pretty smoth on the Switch 2.

BISHOP-BRASIL48d ago

It's originally a game released in 2013, obviously a lot has been changed since, but still the base code for this game was in development before at least 2011, which means that thing was probably going to run on PS3 and XB360 with a few tweaks, Digital Extremes just chose to skip into next gen... Someone would have had to majorly fuck up for the Switch 2 not to run Warframe smoothly, a game with 15 year old mid power target specs! It's a very light and optimized game by now anyway, it famously runs well on relatively old notebooks with CPU integrated graphics... Hell, even the mobile version manages to not run like ass.

TGG_overlord48d ago

That is true, so there should be no problems like you said, unless someone has messed-up really badly.

1nsomniac49d ago

Haven’t played this since it launched on ps4. Surprised it’s still even a thing.

DivineHand12549d ago

The game has received many quality of life updates since the PS4 days and receives content drops several times per year. The best part is that it is not pay to win.

It is a great way to unwind, but you will need to be active in the community to play this game. Most of the mechanics are explained by youtubers, forum posts and wiki pages.

TGG_overlord48d ago

Exactly. And nope, it was never a P2W title, and from what I understand, it will remain that way as well.

TGG_overlord48d ago

The updates and community keeps the game going.
