Command & Conquer Reboot Being Developed 'as a live service'

Victory Games' Command & Conquer reboot is launching as a free-to-play game later this year. Tim Morten, development director, also says that Command & Conquer will require an internet connection.

When asked about those without online connectivity, Morten responded, in a way eerily reminiscent of Don Mattrick, that "...if people want to play offline, we have a bunch of other great Command & Conquer games that we still offer in the Ultimate Collection".

Bring back Westwood studios

JackOfAllBlades4636d ago

Agreed Red Alert 2 was the greatest

JsonHenry4636d ago

No thanks. Just look at petroglyph games if you think Westwood was going to be doing anything better than EA.

modesign4636d ago

The star wars RTS was good. Veterans from Westwood doesn't mean 100% of everyone from Westwood went to pereoglygh. They brought in new employees which means new perspectives.

JsonHenry4636d ago

It also doesn't mean 100% of the people from Westwood didn't stay to work on the following CnC projects either.

CnC would have taken a similar direction regardless of Westwood because the guys at the top were always the same saying what direction the series should go in.

IMO the best and worst CnC's were made under direct EA leadership and title. (Generals/CnC4) But after watching the alpha gameplay videos on youtube before they were taken down I think this new CnC game is going to be the best yet. And not just because it has shiny graphics.

Command and Conquer died years ago when EA shut down Westwood Studios, and the fact that they re simply using the name "Command & Conquer" for what should be called Generals 2 is a shame, as to me, a game called Command and Conquer should feature Kane, the GDI and the NOD.

As for the game itself, hopefully it will be good. Let's hope this isn't Command and Conquer 4 all over again.

bumnut4636d ago

If I ever see whoever was responsible for C&C 4 im going to loosen the wheel nuts on his car.

JsonHenry4636d ago

I wanted to riot over what a crappy game CnC4 was. I am so happy most of the people involved in that game were fired.

And they are using the name Command and Conquer because eventually you will be pitting the Yuri faction against the Black Hand faction vs the Super-weapon General. It is a conglomerate of the series (in multiplayer form) and the single player campaigns will be the story driven single player that CnC fans want.

Roccetarius4636d ago

I remember when C&C was actually relevant to the Strategy genre. Now it's just ''whatever'' when news about it comes out.

Godlovesgamers4636d ago

I wish they'd just develop a proper single player/co-op game with additional multiplayer modes for the console.

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

cue the apologist saying that these are mostly just contractors hired for this specific project bla bla bla

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

isarai_lee66d ago

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

US Lawmakers Urge Review Of EA Sale

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

No. There were elections and some of the scum were replaced.

Different elections. Different scum. Same results.

i know its a long shot, but i hope this gets shot down.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
