SolForge is a multiplayer trading card game that seems to play a lot like a boiled down version of Magic: The Gathering with a twist. In the game, players build decks of 30 cards to be used as an army against a single opponent. Thanks to some fantastic art and solid mechanics, SolForge holds its own as a great card game on the iPad.
Hearthstone is a great collectible card game, but it isn't for everyone. Plenty of similar games are available if you're looking for something familiar yet different.

Don't sleep on Earthcore. This is a fantastic game as well. Ditto with SolForge. Both of these are worthy rivals to Hearthstone. Different, smaller in scope, but still great card games.
Hearthstone is my shiz, but Magic the gathering with fully customizable decks is tough to beat. I stopped buying the planeswalker games because of the lack of building a from scratch deck.
