XBLA Format dropped from Xbox one

XBLA will not be around for Xbox 1 – ever. All XBL channels; i.e., indie will be consolidated into one virtual bucket of games from which you can rifle through. Whether this is Team Xbox living up to the XB1 credo of “oneness” or not is definitely an underlying point to the primary question of – why?

I swear with each piece of news hitting this site, MS just looks more and more out of touch with the core. XBLA was one of the best things 360 had going for it and now it looks MS is glossing it over even more next-gen.

Xbox One is everything but a game console

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4740d ago (Edited 4740d ago )

charging for used games for each account and people still love them??

They are really getting like apple with idiots following them.

Jek_Porkins4740d ago

I think most gamer's will agree that this is actually a good thing, you no longer have to go to a certain area for indie or arcade games, there are just games. I think this will actually be helpful in the generation to come, and it'll maybe get people out of their comfort zone when it comes to the kind of games they like.

LOL_WUT4740d ago

"The only foreseen problem with this model is that it completely shafts the hungry, and talented indie developers out there hoping for a bit of recognition. By eliminating their ‘spotlights’ or popular titles"

How is that a good thing? Now I can see why some indies are frustrated and will most likely jump ship. ;)

maniacmayhem4740d ago (Edited 4740d ago )

I don't think it's a good thing. For one all games will be lumped into one category and more than likely will be trumped by the bigger AAA titles that have paid for more space or are trending better than the lesser known titles.

Little titles and indie titles will be buried and forgotten or having a lesser known, graphically inferior title sitting right next to a monster AAA title will be passed over every time.

I think this is a bad idea and just further proves (IMO) that MS is trying to faze out the lesser, non money making indie games that they pioneered in the beginning for the 360.

Eldyraen4740d ago

I can see the good and bad about it and the article covered both reasonably well.

It wasn't really necessary though as I sort of liked being able to easily look through the different game "types"--Retail, Arcade and Indie so I could ignore one type or the other when looking for something "different" (especially if Arcade or Indie as Retail already gets more coverage elsewhere).

Hopefully there is a better way to still find out about the "smaller" games as its the main concern really as some will end up lost this way (still).

Conan-O-Brady4740d ago (Edited 4740d ago )

You have got to be one of the most optimistic muthertruckers on the planet, you find a positive in every negative MS article. How long can you keep it up?

Me, I see most things in black n white. This is bad for indie dev's. MS doesn't think they need indies to sell the Xbox brand they want those Call of duty mega franchises.......at least that's the way I see it, cause I'm a pessimist.......

i think this is bad for indie developers. just because we wont be able to see whats at their storefront, they would be completely overshadowed by the big devs.

M-M4740d ago

I don't feel like reading the article, but are they essentially saying that there will be no XBLA on the Xbox One? Are they referring to something entirely different?

Eldyraen4740d ago

Basically sounds like all games are lumped into one huge pool and we get the pleasure of looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. They better have a great filter/search system as I hated hunting through some of the 360's lists.

r3f1cul4740d ago

this is just going to be a clusterfuck of confusion about 2 years in when there are 780 arcade games 1000 indie games and about 300 games on demand.... horrible idea IMO... much like everything else i've heard of the xbox one... i've been shaking my head for the past 2 days straight now it seems... :(

a_bro4740d ago

but thats the thing. those games are not compatible to the Xbox one as it stands, so they wont appear on the Xbox One store.

this is still a terrible idea in my opinion, and we see why Indie devs are jumping ship to Playstation/Nintendo. putting a AAA title on the same storefront as an indie title means, people will take precedence in buy that AAA title over the indie game, instead of the indie game taking recognition as what someone on this thread stated.

Bomberman Battlefest now available on Xbox One BC

MajorNelson via Twitter:“Bomberman Battlefest is coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility today”

I really wish we could blacklist this website. Daily Star is absolute shit.

TheColbertinator3555d ago

Agreed. They are starting to piss me off.

Kingthrash3603555d ago (Edited 3555d ago )

Man I wish they were "xbox new game announced mlby major Nelson"
Instead of another 360 game...I've been seeing plenty of these BC games launched....nothing wrong with that....but the Xbox one needs xbox one games. BC is a great feature, but it's getting to the point where I should have kept my 360. That's my opinion at least. Some people don't care if the xbo gets xbo games.

Godz Kastro3555d ago

@knighthrash

There are 4 exclusive games this coming up. One of them is a brand new ip.

JasonKCK3554d ago

Godz Kastro He's just trolling.

Kingdomcome2473554d ago (Edited 3554d ago )

@Kingthrash360- You say that exact thing in nearly every Xbox One article. Why is it that, "You own", an Xbox One? Constructive criticism is wonderful, integral, and when used properly it can be a great catalyst for change. You, on the other hand bang the same drum incessantly as though everyone doesn't already know your stance on the matter clear as day. As I stated above, constructive criticism can be great, but when criticism is the only thing that you have to offer, mixed in with the occasional backhanded compliment, I seriously begin to wonder how much truth and merit there is to your claims of Xbox One ownership. I myself would love to see some additional fresh new IPs. Preferably single player narrative driven games. I recognize the console's various shortcomings as well, but I don't feel the need to spout off the same criticisms over and over. I support both systems, though, and what one console might lack the other console fills that void, and vice versa. I've never seen you give a genuine compliment to anything pertaining to the Xbox One. There's always a caveat, or some sort of stealth trolling involved on your part. Which leads me directly back to my previous question. Why do you own an Xbox One. You don't seem to have any legitimate fondness for it. Whereas I've never seen you criticize Sony, but rather you're constantly stepping up to the plate to bat for them, no matter the subject at hand. It just makes it all a bit hard to believe that you truly own an Xbox One.

Kingthrash3603554d ago

It's not trolling bro it's just my opinion. I said there is nothing wrong with it, I just want more games...more xbox 1 games. I bought it a few months before QB released...after I beat qb, halo 5, tr, ryse, sunset, ki...I'm not really into racing...so no forza ...but I'm left waiting for more. I've play many games and I've played all the games I wanted to play on xbox 360...when I had a 360...now that I got a xbo I want to play more games....somehow this is a bad thing.....to want more games. You say I've been saying the same thing....well yeah its the same problem. It's what I bought a gaming console for, to play games on it. All the bells and whistle mean nothing if all I want to do is game. Instead they are making announcements of old games....I already played years ago.
Like I said nice but yeah focus on the new games more. Tired of this bs

Can anyone get into red deads mp?

meche3343555d ago

what you do is go into a private mp then kill duplicate civilians and then make it public and people will be able to join

NotoriousWhiz3555d ago (Edited 3555d ago )

That sounds reasonable.

81BX3555d ago

@NotoriousWhiz

Rofl..
You gotta tap the back of the system 3 times, turn it on, now wait 45 seconds and push X Y RB down at the same time, then when you hear the word TOASTY push up up. Fight smoke to a Flawless victory.

meche3343554d ago

Its because theres so many duplicate npc's spawning its overfilling the games ram so nothing can spawn in. So you kill some of the dupes to free up ram and allow other things to spawn

Very well written article. I still have multiple OG XBOX consoles, bought a few extra towards the end of its lifespan. Fantastic console that really put Microsoft on the map in the console market!

2pacalypsenow3796d ago

Xbox 360 really was a great console

iNFAMOUZ13795d ago (Edited 3795d ago )

long live xbox original, man i still remember when i first got it, best moment of my life second to halo ce/halo 2 days
still got it, but i dont think it works anymore

DivineAssault 3795d ago

I liked the OG xb.. Mainly due to bioware & sega releasing the unfinished dreamcast titles on it.. I do remember playing Halo for the 1st time.. It was pretty awesome having a vast area to explore with smooth gameplay.. They lost their charm to me though.. Theres no exclusives that feel refreshing like that anymore

christocolus3795d ago (Edited 3795d ago )

Ninja Gaiden, DOA3, Crimzon Skies, Mech Assault, Fuzion Frenzy, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Blinx and Halo CE were some of my best games on the OG Xbox.
