Why Wii’s Little Brother is Best Console...Ever

Derek Brown - NINTENDO hold a special place in gamers’ hearts.

Whether you played Pokemon as a kid on Game Boy, nearly failed your finals playing too much SNES Mario Kart (puts hand in air) or spent a Christmas bowling with Granny on Wii, Nintendo have been part of your life.

So here’s the bad news for Nintendo — I am the only person I know who has a Wii U.
Even the most ardent Nintendo fan would have to confess that it’s been a pretty duff six months since the launch.

Don't all caps 'Ever' in title. Only game titles/company names who are normally always all caps can have that in titles.

I'm surprised this even got though. It's not talking about how the wii U is a failure or how nintendo is a bad company. Good article.

I wholeheartly agree with it. It's still shocking to me that 3ds might just be my favorite nintendo system ever. It's had tons of good games and has been perfectly graced with some of the best nintendo games ever. When I question if I can call it my favorite system ever(So sorry SNES) I am forced to confront how it's given me the best possible version of starfox 64 AND OOT to play on the go. Then I also have to confront how after i bought it the price dropped... so nintendo decided to give me super mario bros, legend of zelda, and metroid just because, then I got fire emblem 1, Metroid fusion, Wario Warez Inc, and Yoshi's island for free too.

Now it's also got pretty much the best exclusive lineup for the entire year. Objectively, I have to seriously come to terms with how this might be my favorite nintendo system ever.

SonyPS44753d ago

I think the 3DS is becoming my favorite handheld since GameBoy. Things are really shaping up for this little behemoth of a console. And yes it is a beast, maybe not in terms of hardware specs but in terms of first and third party support.

MoveTheGlow4753d ago (Edited 4753d ago )

I'm totally in this author's ballpark, and yes, I got an Ambassador 3DS on day one. I started playing it again when I upgraded the SD card, just like this guy, to 32GB on the cheap.

It's going the way I thought it would - well-designed software is happening because the cost of production of a 3DS game is cheaper. Developers have been making the best out of what they have to work with, knowing there's a good market out there for their games. That, to me, produces way better results than current- or next-gen home systems, where the big guys often overinvest in graphical fidelity at the expense of having well thought-out levels and mechanics. Look at Mario 3D Land - I'm on the [spoiler] secret worlds, and the mechanics are STILL changing per level.

However, I'm tenuous about the eShop games I'm buying in the long run. I've never had a portable system stolen, mostly because I've usually played portables at home, but if this thing goes missing, it's not tied to an account. I lose all those games.

For now, I love this thing, but as eShop purchases get more prevalent for full retail, we might be finding thieves favoring 3DS systems above iPhones because of their larger inherent value. You can't "deactivate" that system. You steal the system, you steal the games. Get on it, Nintendo.

Nintentional24753d ago

3DS is also a haven for fighting games on the go. Blaz Blu, Tekken, DOA, Super Street Fighter IV, AND it's also getting Super Smash Bros.!!!

lilbroRx4753d ago (Edited 4753d ago )

Yesterday, I posted an article that "quoted" Capcom word for word as saying that Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii U was a Smash hit http://n4g.com/news/1253150...

It got failed because they said it was a duplicate of an article that misquoted the same statement(capcom says the package, as in, the Wii U bundle did mediocre. The article alters this to it saying the games sales as whole did mediocre when its not what it says).

There have also been instance where I posted an article that quoted something overall good from a dev, but an article that was posted "after" I posted mine that had a negative slant on it was the one that got approved, and mine labeld a duplicate then failed. This has happened more than once.

I'm about to call it quit with posting news on N4G.

Hmmm, I really like my 3DS, but it has some issues that hold it back from a title like that unfortunately.

I bought a 3ds xl a couple of weeks ago and just bought a lot of games for it. I play it and my vita a lot! But it seems as the bottom screen has scratched the top which kind of pissed me off, guess I should of bought a screen protector.

Firan4753d ago

Yes the scratches are very annoying. I put a microfiber cloth between screens so it doesn't get worse. It doesn't affect gaming much but it's annoying since I never scratched it myself.

Nintentional24753d ago

if you activated your 3DS on club Nintendo's website, then you should have a 1 year warranty. That happened to me and, because of the free 1 year warranty, Nintendo fixed it for free and also extended my warranty by another year for free. It also surprisingly took only three days to ship it out, have it fixed, and getting it back.

you can also buy a 1 year warranty using club Nintendo coins too, and Nintendo's customer service is excellent.

Williamson4753d ago

Thats awesome! If my screen ends up getting worse then Im going to send it in to get it fixed. Thanks for letting me know, I feel a lot better about it now.

OmniSlashPT4753d ago

The 3DS has a great library, but you cant even compare it to the Gameboy, not even mentioning the PS1, PS2, SNES and N64. Damn, even the Vita had 4 out of the 5 top handheld games of last year and its supposed to have no games. The 3DS has a large library but no killer apps (mario games, monter hunter and the upcoming pokemon can be killer apps, but how many times have we played them before? how about something new nintendo?).

AdvanceWarsSgt4753d ago

The 3DS is already better than the N64 IMO. It has yet to surpass the holy trinity that is the PS2, SNES, and DS.

RTheRebel4753d ago

And yet the vita is selling like poop lol

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Well dayum lol. Old agent orange pissing off every industry and nation.

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer71d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot71d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box71d ago (Edited 71d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno71d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay71d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno70d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK70d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
