Is king. Tetris, Pac-man, Donkey Kong, Super Metroid and others of that ilk show that 25 years later, these games are still extremely popular and addicting.

How many games made in the last 5 years will still be played 20 years from now?

when i comes to this this is what i think.
Gameplay: john use your grappling hook to get to the old warehouse there you will find a opCV (OPerations Control Vehicle) there you can now command a fleet of RAV's to take over the base camp. or go in take out the power station and destroy the main generator and take them out silently. and well you can ignore what i say a burn everything to the ground.
Graphics: alright john take out russia while we set the sun in a cinematic area where everything looks pretty. as the for base camp go in and kill everyone.

My imagination has better graphics than most games, so just give me gameplay and I'm good to go.

it is like cinema u cant say a 1 million budget film is worse or better than a 200 million budget film i like them both

How about both graphics and gameplay!! Bioshock infinite does it, Uncharted series proves it and the upcoming Last of us will nail it. If gameplay only and not graphics, I wonder how many will play say ACIV: black flag great gameplay but there's one catch, you will be playing With PSone graphics coz graphics are not needed...

I demand both though. But gameplay is more important than graphics but some people use that to justify their consoles weak hardware.

Here's an example of all 3 cases.

1. Terrible gameplay incredible graphics: Crysis 3.
2. Incredible gameplay terrible graphics (art style is incredible though): Guacamelee
3.Terrible graphics terrible gameplay:Aliens Colonial Marines
4. Incredible graphics incredible gameplay: Uncharted 2.

This is all subjective so don't burn yourself if you don't agree with this.

Yes I know there are no Nintendo or Microsoft exclusives in the list but I just listed games available to the console I own.

Great looking games add to the immersion, so does the sound design. Some games like dead space (first one) and metro rely on the visual to add a dark atmosphere witch put the player in a mindset and is actually a part of the gameplay (most of the time horror games)

Graphics helps a lot in the immersion of games. For me, A game must be %55 Gameplay and %45 Graphics. Those who say Crysis sucks are hypocrites who will gladly applause Killzone for its graphics.

Both are necessary and interdependent.

I could be playing Far Cry 3 with max settings on PC or a SOCOM PS2 game and after 15 min the effect of graphics wears off, on either one.
Personally I could care less about shiny graphics but you don't get oohhh's and aahhh's at E3 from gameplay.

They need to do a graphics vs. HD resolutions/frame rates. Because so many people do not know the difference.

Graphics are not everything but Twilight Princess didn't deserve the 480p treatment.

Although the game was still amazing in my opinion.

The only thing in graphics that matter to me is the framerate, slower framerates give me headaches. Part of the reason i couldn't play goldeneye for a long time even if it was amazing :(. Otherwise if the gameplay is really good i can look over bad graphics.

The game's graphics does not equal a good game, but the better the graphics the better the possibilities.

The CGI Hulk can bring you more into the experience when looking at the Hulk and is part of the experience. You bring that into games and video games like Grand Theft Auto or the Adventure games would still have text to describe what's going on. Better graphics allow better auto, voice acting, facial expressions, and a lot of other stuff.

Bad graphics can happen on any spectrum whether it's 2D or 3D and the Halo franchise is a perfect example of this. Graphics never really changes, nor the game-play but sells millions when a lot of people complain about Call of Duty.

Yet, the article seems to be talking about casual gaming than gaming as a whole. If a game is simple, it must be hard to master for me to keep coming back, I want a challenge this is why I don't like Bioshock, the whole game is a big walkthrough. I want to discover things on my own, and not have my hand held by the video game the whole time.

The thing that really matters is the experience the game provides. Gameplay, graphics, story, design, they're just all servants to the experience.
I absolutely loved Telltale's Walking dead game despite the 'poor' graphics and ultimately pretty shallow gameplay because the characters and plot made for a worthwhile experience.
I absolutely loved Bioshock infinite despite the fairly standard shooter gameplay mostly because the art design and atmosphere of that world was incredible (the plot was also great but it's the atmosphere that pulled me in).
I absolutely loved Uncharted 2 despite the pretty safe plot and gameplay for the huge exciting set pieces which were made all the more thrilling by the incredible graphics.

Whatever it takes to provide a worthwhile experience is the important thing. Of course I would say that anybody who could enjoy a painfully dull macho brofest shooter just because it had technically great graphics is probably not my kind of person and I really couldn't do that myself but still, there are games that could have been pretty good but were pushed to the level of being great by stunning graphics.

Just for that picture; there's no reason more detail can't be added to the fourth mesh, even without using a normal map.

To me this is like comparing Steven Spielberg to Michael Bay. Yeah your gonna be like, "WOW Did you see those special effects." but then years after you will forget what made that movie (e.g. Transformers) special because what it pushed in VFX, sounds, and stuff is the norm presently. Schindler's List on the other hand is an amazingly crafted movie that will never be forgotten that needs no description. Yeah Crysis 3 pushed our graphics cards to the limit, but it lacked in substance, relying on the visuals only. Crysis 1 and Warhead on the other hand had a good balance in my opinion.

Gameplay is 70% of the game so if your talking about would I like to play game with very good gameplay and OK graphics or play game with OK gameplay and very good looking graphics ? defiantly with the first . In other hand Graphics matter for sure for example Dark souls is a very good game but if it had better graphics it would be an excellent game . it is hard to find your way in that out dated graphics and resolution .

That is why for example Bastion failed for me. Everyone loved the artwork and graphics. I tried and played it but the actual gameplay was pretty boring, go there, kill every monter, grab the object, go back to base, upgrade something, go there, kill every monster, and so on...
I have to admit that the graphics there were amazing but, behind that there was a very dull game, like TimeStalkers for the Dreamcast.

I wonder if this purchase is part of the $600 billion investment that MBS signed with trump last week. Or if its separate from that.
