I wonder was he forced to step down?many companies are known for these type of actions when expected profit is not being made.

Mac is OK4816d ago (Edited 4816d ago )

Probably, the writing has been on the wall for a while. SWTOR was what sealed his destiny.

nrvalleytime4816d ago

I like how you threw in the word destiny while talking about Star Wars. Well played.

Think about it though - EA has repeatedly been named one of the most hated companies in any industry. When you have that reputation, stellar sales are the only reason to keep a job.

papashango4816d ago

Definitely SWTOR.

Though I'm sure their plan of alternating MoH and BF backfiring, losing on the NBA front. Poor reception of the Dragon Age series. Being voted the worst company of 2012 and the Simcity disaster didn't really help his case.

pompombrum4816d ago (Edited 4816d ago )

SWTOR left him hanging, Sim City sealed it. Good riddance, the guy is as bad as Kotick if not worse. Also what's with the disagrees about him being forced to step down? It's probably the most likely case, someone has to take the fall when you are constantly dealing with so much bad PR and the biggest head had to roll eventually.

Anyhow, rejoice gamers, this can only be a good thing.. EA can't possibly get any worse. The 18th of March.. should be officially declared gamers day in celebration.

dcbronco4816d ago

I'm sure the Mass Effect debacle didn't help either. I don't even buy a EA game with MP until after a few weeks when the servers are more likely to be working properly. They tried to cut too many corners.

I wonder how much money he gets for leaving EA...

yess4816d ago

Just look at his smile...Enough i guess.

Root4816d ago (Edited 4816d ago )

Well he could of been forced

OR

He knew EA were in trouble with how much damage control they've done recently and thought he'd get out of there before it got worse. He might of known they were hated too much and there's nothing he could do

I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but this guy just looks like he is so out of touch with reality and gaming.

solid_warlord4816d ago (Edited 4816d ago )

John Riccitiello is the illusive man from Mass Effect...the main villian who happen to be a direct real life evil of the video game world...John Riccitiello.

what a great day for gamers.
that's call for Celebration
F to you Johnny.

Kyosuke_Sanada4816d ago

It would be good day if this event actually constitutes change for the better. It would be a great day if all companies take notice and learn from it.

But don't get too carried away. It's okay to hate the ideas he allowed to perverse gaming but don't hate the person himself.

ginsunuva4816d ago

Don't worry, some other non-gaming greedy business major will take his spot.

TXIDarkAvenger4816d ago

John Riccitiello IS LITERALLY HITLER

ExCest4816d ago

That's a bit far, don't you think?

And, he isn't "literally" Hitler. Hitler is. Not some other guy who isn't.

TXIDarkAvenger4816d ago

Probably should of added "/s" to my comment mocking N4G on the EA hate train and jokes about EA is literally Hitler.

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

isarai_lee87d ago

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

US Lawmakers Urge Review Of EA Sale

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

lodossrage122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

No. There were elections and some of the scum were replaced.

TheColbertinator121d ago

Different elections. Different scum. Same results.

i know its a long shot, but i hope this gets shot down.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
