The Future: Microtransactions in Console Gaming?

What do I think about all this? I have a pretty solid line of thought that states "a fool and his money will part quickly." It's not often that I make in-game purchases but, more often than not, when I do, it's for game add-ons. I don't often get stuck purchasing in-game currency or "power ups" but I know a lot of people do. In an industry where money talks and bullshit walks, it's obvious that gaming will go down this path, should it prove profitable.

yeah my bad, soz. my web browser won't let me see the link properly keeps giving me warnings i wonder if other people are experiencing this problem too or if its just me (on firefox btw).
anyway back on topic, microtransactions might not be all bad since it makes free to play games possible. can't wait to try out Dust514 really intrigued to see how two different game an MMO and FPS merge together in real time on the same server never seen anything like it before. i think F2P is an area the ps4 can thrive in considering the collection of massive F2P game SOE has like planetside2 and Dc universe online should sony choose to implement them in their next console if at all possible.

Micro transactions aren't the future of gaming- they are the death of gaming.

Or at least a major contributor.

Chrono4841d ago

I don't think this is a good idea, micro-transactions only suit free games or games that are really cheap (less than $10).

laymensgamer4841d ago

It's a free-to-play business model and it works. Using it in a console market is the nature of the debate.

Revolver_X_4841d ago

Im interested in the way Dead Space 3 implements it. In DS3 microT's are so the less skilled more casual gamer can take a small shortcut, but not become OP like Dust. You cant buy a gun that 1 hit kills everything, only parts, but you need the resources to make them, i.e. be so far in the campaign, as to not ruin the experience. Also, hardcore gamers can grind out the game and find in-game currency that can buy the exact same things microT's buy. No one really gets the advantage, casuals just can now enjoy the game a little more, without having to dumb the games difficulty down.

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

cue the apologist saying that these are mostly just contractors hired for this specific project bla bla bla

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

No. There were elections and some of the scum were replaced.

Different elections. Different scum. Same results.

i know its a long shot, but i hope this gets shot down.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
