i went to my bestbuy, and all i saw was people, 4 or 5 people buying blu-ray and notbody even looking at hd-dvd, im really surprised at how many people are on board for blu-ray, good job sony.

because its (HD-DVD) not built into the hardware.(which it should've)

Well Microsoft are right in a way, but it does mean that the value of the competition's machine now makes the 360 comparitively quite expensive if you're buying a console for more than games.

Personally, I am relieved the "format war" is over though, like most consumers I held off purchasing either until a clear victor was apparant. I might as well pick up a BluRay player now though...

Odd, I bought my PS3 because it plays games and high def movies.

Seems to want to make clear to their customers that

"the 360 is still great don't get downed by this news and don't listen to fanbois about Blu-Ray, the 360 never needed Hd-DvD."

If they didn't insist in making Hd-DvD seems superior to Blu-Ray, no one would care now.

Truth is though, the Ps3 will be pushed out of the stores by retailers themselves, because they want to sell as much as they can plus it makes them look like good people when they say to you

One thing I figured out long ago. Play movies on a movie player, and games on a game player. Playing both on a console leads to shorter life spans, disc errors, laser problems, etc... I have not played a movie in any of my console(s)in years (PS2, XBox, 360), I have 3 DVD players and the HD-DVD add-on for that, and will buy the Blu-Ray add-on as soon as it is released. The drives in my consoles get enough use as it is. Multi-use units sound great, but have inherent problems. Anyone ever get one of those combo tv/vcr units? What happened when the vcr went up? And TV/DVD combos? As soon as one component dies, the whole unit is no good. You cannot have them repaired (at a reasonable cost), so you have to replace BOTH! Sounds good in the short run, problems in the long run. PS3 owners who watch a lot of movies will see what I mean soon.

microsoft was wrong about 1080p when all new tvs were adding it,wrong about hdmi when all tv manufactures were adding it,wrong about 20gigs(11-13gig actually) being enough for gamers to download content,wrong about not making the hd dd standard in all systems,wrong about hd-dvd being the better choice,wrong about spending money on cheaper parts that lead to RROD.

This wont affect the performance of the 360 I dont think - the 360 install and fanbase is solid to just carry on regardless.
Blu ray addon for 360 thats quite funny though..it shows how Toshiba, Sony, Microsoft and others are in each others pockets - its all about moving money around :)

I still want the hddvd drive for the 360. I have a collection of consoles and their obscure addons. This will be just another to add to the list.

I wouldnt mind trying it out on my pc and ripping hd movies to make HQ divx files.

If the 360 did get a Blu-ray player would it be able to play 7.1 surround sound seeing that it only has HDMI 1.2?

MS is not going to announce that the PS3+BR turned out to be a great value proposition. I think the BR vs HD-DVD war cost them this gen. But many of us said it from the beginning. They needed the year head start. If they included a HD-DVD and still had a year head start, then BR would be in trouble now. As it turned out, their decision killed HD-DVD, and cost them this gen.
