Thanks for all your brilliant analysis but, I think we're all under the impression that one format needs to imerge before anything goes mainstream.

Bluray will win, trust me

Most people buy a HDTV and continue to watch movie on their DVD player, make no sence, they should get a PS3 to have BD.

Well, it makes sense. Those of who pay attention to how technology is going know that the sheer number of studios behind Blu-ray is enough ensure it will win what remains of the format war. However, Johnny McBuymovies on the street may not have heard of the studios taking sides, or even if he did hear it, he may not know all the ramifications of it.

That isn't to say the people interviewed are stupid, they just don't pay as much attention to technology trends as pretty much anyone who visits this website does.

I'm just going to go ahead and say that the only hampering of sales that is going on is the fact that a losing format (HD-DVD in this case) refuses to concede the market to the winning format (BR) and quit confusing customers as to which one they should buy.

If its not on blue ray, i would buy it on DVD.

It will be years before BD starts to outsell regular DVD's. By then, most people could be downloading movies - just my .02.

Before I get flamed by a bunch of guys saying "no way I'll always want to own my movies." Just consider music has already gone this way, TV shows are already going this way. Yes, ATM they are rather large downloads but that won't always be the case. Also - if you have comcast on-demand HD you are already streaming hd content to your living room. You are just doing it to an HD decoder instead of a computer. Consider anything within the world of electronics and data compression and the nature has always been to get more out of less, IE cramming more data into smaller file sizes, shrinking CPU's/GPU's etc.

If movie production houses are smart, they will begin to offer both a physical media version as well as sort out all the DRM garbage and start offering streamable/downloadable content service with access to a library for a fee. Yes, I'll still buy the movies I really want to own, but I'd also pay for this service in addition to that.

Just bought me a box set of Spiderman ( 1st,2nd and 3rd ) and The Underworld and Underworld Evolution series on Blu-Ray for AU$50 = US$45 - for each titles.
They are pre-owned/and or second hand but really a great price, considering the quality in picture and sound.
There are a lot of good bargain movie/game shops around here in Sydney.
