Digital Foundry vs. Unreal Engine 4

At E3 this year, Epic delivered something few others dared to offer - a vision of the future in gaming, a look ahead to the graphical possibilities afforded by the next generation of console hardware. We've seen it in motion and today, on this page, you will too. Unreal Engine 4 may not be entirely what you expect, but it is very real, obviously ambitious and in many ways, rather spectacular.

Watch Dogs Looks way better than this for me !

TheModernKamikaze5092d ago

Not by a long shot for me. Some of those scenes like the car crash was scripted.

GamingPerson5092d ago (Edited 5092d ago )

star wars 1313 look better than both! and that was Unreal 3!
Consoles are holding back unreal 3 so forget 4 for now!

In the end it's the developers and art style.

ABizzel15092d ago

This was a demo to show off tech, not a game or an action packed trailer.

This was simply to show off sample by sample what UE4 can do.

SuperStrokey11235092d ago

I was really impressed by lots of it but the lighting still needs some work. It just seemed off to to me for some reason. In no way shape or form am i well versed in this stuff though.

Sino5092d ago

The only thing that amazed me in the tech demo was the flame particle and the wall collapsing, everything else just look like a modded skyrim on high end PC

jalen2475092d ago

The Final Fantasy real-time demo was more impressive.

And Star Wars 1313 and Samaritan looked better to me....could be the art style.

The snowy mountains were spectacular...definitely the highlight of the clip

Right? Thanks for checking it out!

Fans??? This is done by one person

WoodsRatesGames1838d ago

Someone else was commissioned to do the music and another person modelled the batmobile. Links to all involved are included in the article.

Gaming4Life19811838d ago

They should have been made a batman game for the best batman movie. This looks amazing and now I must watch the movie.

Am I crazy or is there an Unreal Engine 5 now? Why promote old tech?

1859d ago Replies(2)
waverider1859d ago

I really dont understand either? isnt the Unreal Engine 5 already available for studios? arent they already working with it?

masterfox1859d ago

UE5 Is for PS5 only, deal with it! :D

***runs away from this thread with pride!**

Tacoboto1859d ago

UE5 is not released yet and developers for years will still make UE4 games because that's where their tools and customizations are.

Mortal Kombat still uses UE3. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is also still UE3.

Magog1859d ago

That more of an embarrassing indictment of those devs than a reason to promote old software.

Tacoboto1859d ago

Embarrassing indictment? You know nothing of software development then.

Spenok1859d ago (Edited 1859d ago )

Because a ridiculous amount of the industry still uses 4, and because no, 5 is not out yet. They said it would launch later this year.

AuraAbjure1859d ago

Companies still use Unreal Engine 3.

Really impressive tech but I don’t even notice all of these benefits in real life, never mind being chased by zombies in a video game. Rather devote resources to resolution and frame rate.

Magog1859d ago

If you suddenly stopped casting reflections in a mirror I think you would notice.

Amplitude1859d ago (Edited 1859d ago )

Edit: i misread this.
N4G really needs a delete comment button lol

Einhander19711857d ago

Yes after seeing the Unreal 5 ps5 reveal, I thought that's where we were heading. But saying that I have read various articles that suggest its easy for developers to still work on Unreal 4 and carry everything over to Unreal 5 when needed, we shall see.
