While Square Enix has a rather decent line-up on the publishing side of things with games like Hitman, Tomb Raider, and Kingdom Heart 3D, they did something today that is bound to make many gamers unhappy. In 2006, Square Enix announced a group of games known as the "Fabula Nova Crystallis" which would include 3 Final Fantasy games titled Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII. These games were promised to be some of the best Final Fantasy games ever made, but there was an issue, promises were broken.

Jason Dietz: "We reveal the past year's best and worst video game publishers (based on their 2025 releases) in the 16th edition of our annual Game Publisher Rankings."
But... but... the garbage-mongers always tell us that Square Enix is in trouble! 😂

Square Enix announced its financial results for the first nine months of the fiscal year, related to the period between April and December 2025.

3D Investment Partners, a major shareholder of Square Enix, issued a 112-page presentation criticizing the company's 'sluggish' revenue and profit margins.
Waaah waaah our profits aren't big enough! I mean, they're still growing and all, but we want it faster and NOW! Waaaah!

Hmmm, let's see... We got XIII, a multiplatform game with a decent story, good characters and endless corridors. Agito, which STILL has yet to come out in America, and Versus XIII which is somewhere in development limbo. Oh wait, plus the unplanned XIII-2. Which was good in all honestly, but was still quite lacking in more than a few departments.
How about LISTENING TO YOUR FANS FOR ONCE ENIX???? Maybe then you'll be able to put out a masterpiece on par with your older games.
(Oh, and don't move your headquarters based on the advice of a fortune teller again... -_-)
Versus XIII its only been in full devolpement since 2 years ago or so the problem is the game´s anouncement was too dam early.
By judging on gameplay footage they showed over a year ago seems worth the wait.
Im hoping to get FF-Type 0 this year to say at least.
So he is hoping for SE to launch Versus and then wait some years to prepare for next-gen? No way, I don't want to wait. They are big enough to have diferent studios working at same time.
Studios have to be evolving and preparing. As FinaLXiii said, Versus is just 2 years in developement, and it is said to have a choped-down version of Luminous studio as the core engine. Just be patient and undesrtand that we are talking about a ton of hours and a ton of money there.
Square enix are more intrested in their western development by edios things like Tomb raider, hit man and deux ex have kept them alive.
FF sold well but they kinda messed up ff 13-2 was already planned from the get go they just tweaked everything that was wrong. Versus has been sitting gathering dust but I am still waiting for it cause I am sucker.
