Why Wasn't Skyrim Finished Before Launch?

Last week, Bethesda announced a great new feature for Skyrim: mounted combat. This will definitely make travel easier. However, the one thought I can’t get out of the back of my mind right now is why this feature wasn’t included in the game when it first launched back in November.

Because they know the gaming media will give them a pass. And the check for 1st DLC helps too.

In the case of Skyrim, it's more about updates than DLCs, but I see what you mean.

because gamers have short attention spans.

Soo added FREE features to their games is considered bad now?

Gamers today are like spoiled brats!

TekoIie5115d ago

I agree and this goes for ME3 too. People... Stop complaining about free stuff!

solidboss5115d ago

its not the added free features that makes it bad, its good that bethesda keeps supporting skyrim with updates.(i believe they have too if they dont want to be embrassed by the pc community making better skyrim features then they did) whats wrong is the simple features that should of been added into the game from the start that are only being added now as an after thought. something like mounted combat should of been introduced the second they knew they were adding horses in the game and making them mountable. it was just plain dumb that you couldn't attack from your horse from the beginning. some companies like to deliberately leave out such features in their games only to patch them in later and play it off as a "update or brand new feature" that could of easily been added during the development. that is the issue

How on earth can you complain about this? Or even complain about the time it took to get this out? Ever hear of scope creep? I'm sure they had a tonne of great ideas they could have implemented easily enough - but that road is never ending. There will always be some other feature that can be added but at some point you have to ship the damn game.

Again, I played nothing but Skyrim for 4 months and have yet to even get on the back of a horse. To me it's cool they're adding new features at all.

They only added it for free cause they rushed this garbage out and it was filled with glitches. It's nowhere close to being Game of the Year and definitely not worth any praise. Of course, the same people who think nothing is wrong with it is about the same as people who buy CoD every year.

It was finished before launch. It just had a few bugs to fix.

I'm not sure I quite understand here, why complain about free things?

CashColeTrain13375115d ago

Also this content was made AFTER release. Skyrim Game Jam look it up.

mephish5115d ago

IMO the only issues that should have been resolved before launch (and can see why people were angry about it) would have been all the game breaking glitches on the PS3 version....

but the EXTRA content for free... how is that a bad thing... sure i guess iw ould have been nice to see some of these in from the get go.... but...

peeps5115d ago

Isn't the answer extremely obvious... if you kept adding things into your game it would never ship because there would always be something else you could add.

Also the game had absolutely tons of content compared to most games

soundslike5115d ago

The smaller the scope of the game, the easier it is to polish. Its not really rocket science.

Skyrim is up there with the greatest single player games of all time, and apparently, thats not good enough.

Skyrim is the second biggest disappointment this gen for me. (behind GTA4)

they can't get a 14 year old game to run smoothly?

That's ridiculous, lol. I'm waiting for the guy that says its too cpu-intensive for the Switch 2. This game is old af and has been released like 17 times.
