Keep Games Off the Silver Screen

Tomb Raider. Doom. Mortal Kombat. Max Payne. It seems like most major franchises get their own game-to-movie treatment at some point in their lifetime. Is this a good thing? Leviathyn.com's Cassidee Moser says no.

Let me preface my statement by understanding that the author is presenting their opinion. The below is just mine in response to it.

===

I think people who don't like them just shouldn't see them.

Yeah, mass majority of them or of low quality in comparison to many others. But, some of them can be enjoyed for what they are.

Thinking that video games shouldn't be made into movies is akin to me thinking that Paranormal Activity-esque movies should never be made.

I mean, look at Battleship. I don't mind that someone made it, and I fully believe it to be a POS, but I don't think someone shouldn't have made it.

I do believe that Uwe Boll should not be allowed near a movie camera or set ever again.

I'm pretty sure the studio wishes it never made Battleship.

Also, completely agree with Uwe Boll. That man is cancer to Hollywood.

more like keep movies away from video games...i dont mind seeing a game in movies

NukaCola5116d ago

It's vision. And the directors who create game property films have little to none. It works for all IPs. The difference between Nolan's Dark Knight and Who-ever-the-hell's Batman and Robin.

Zha1tan5116d ago

And id say its on both sides of the coin,

Keep the movies out of video games because far to many games these days are forgetting they are games and are trying far to hard to emulate hollywood films.

No, hire people who know just what the hell they are writing and why. You just need people who understand the source material.

The main problem is that Hollywood doesn't give a shit.

izumo_lee5115d ago

There has been a few good game to film movies like the first Mortal Kombat & Silent Hill had its moments. The problem with Hollywood directors is that they change SO much from the original source material to make it their own that it just ruins the idea.

Also i believe they have trouble condensing a game storyline into a 2 hr movie.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde33d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
