Just look at the helmet. Its SO much sharper on the FULL RGB than not.

Does the "Box" have RGB capabilities? If not TOO bad for them!

For instance I have a Mitsubishi HD1000u front projector (DLP, 720p). RGB Full does not work with it, I had to use limited. If your display is not compatible, everything will be just too dark. No matter how much you turn up contrast (white level) or brightness (black level) things will appear to be too dark.

My Hitachi Plasma works fine with it however.

When I first got my PS3 and put in a DVD I had to change it otherwise it the movie would turn pink on my TV. I guess that doesn't happen to everyone. I really thought everyone would try to tweak their settings to get the best picture possible for their TV. Guess I was wrong...

it makes a big difference on my plasma, the colours are far more vibrant, the blacks are black and not dark grey, the whole image is far more crisp,solid and detailed

it just makes a massive difference !!

Is this more for the LCD HDTV users? From those pictures, having Full RGB on looks pretty much the same as my HD CRT. The picture is fantastic as is.

Since the day I bought my PS3, just 'cause "RGB Limited" said that...the color would be limited. Totally easy to figure out.

I actually tried it on limited after finding out a while back that GameTrailers.com records all PS3 footage in RGB Limited, and it looked like CRAP, just as they proved the entire year. It's funny that GameTrailers actually stands by their deliberate decision to downgrade the video quality of PS3 titles presented on their site.

I think its funny how GT explains why they dont turn on full RGB.
Lets say you are a rewier at a automobile magazine and should review two cars. One is with automatic transmission and the other one is with both automatic and manual transmission but the AT is default. If you change to manual transmission you will get 40extra horsepower and a more joyable ride of the car.
Do you think for a second that the car revier will not tell or test the manual transmission because it´s not default from the factory?

Why don´t GT show us the PS3 picture from the original multi-out, the HDMI cable is not default.
I think they got caught and now tries to explain them selves with stupid comments that are equally to politicians (or how it´s spelled) explanations to obvious things

There has always been people supporting one product over the other, but this console war is on a huge scale. And the luky x360 got the media on its side, and alot of people listens to media. Not using the best best options for the ps3 is fanboysm at its best. Is like they didn`t want to like the ps3, so they gave the x360 the advantage. Many people made a decission after seeing the vids

That picture comparisons pretty much sums it all up and I think Meus Renaissance is right about the something being wrong with the gaming media.

In the past something like this wouldn't happen and game sites we used to respect are spewing out garbage these days.

What does that option under RGB Full Range under the Display settings do? It says its for TV's that are compatible with super-white output.

And I've had full RGB on since I got my Sharp Aquos. I just played around with it to see the difference when its off and there is a slight difference. Probably more apparent in an actual game.

I have a 46" bravia hooked up to my PS3 and I didn't notice much of a difference when I turned on full RGB but it's quite noticeable in the side-by-side comparison. The textures seem to stand out more on the helmet, facemask and sword hilt.

Also - the screen capture comes from a Korean PS3. Not that it matters - just interesting trivia.

I've used Full RGB since I got my PS3. It darkens the picture a bit, but the trade-off is worth it. My question is why Sony doesn't have it turned on by default?

I prefer limited RGB.. Dont know if its just my TV (Panasonic Plasma).

Full range looks a bit better on Assassins creed but it looks too dark on a game like Uncharted.

This setting is probebly more for LCD users. Plasmas have wonderful deep colours anyways.

I have turned on the rgb setting on my ps3 and the truth i dont see any differnce apart from a slighty better contrast.RGB setting doesnt improve textures, lol fanboys need to get over the fact that multi platform games comparisons on 360 look better.Both consoles are very capable and there will be some stunning games on each platform.Just enjoy being a gamer and play GAMES..........

The Gt guys are a bunch of incompetent, why take the default settings if u can get better results with the optimal setting, well i personally think that the GT guys didn't knew what Full RGB was, hell, they didn't knew it was there in the first place, hey should ashame of themself.

P.s: Why update the firmwares if you're gonna leave everything as default?

of a spiral of bad and innacurate media opinion about a piece of tech like the PS3, more the everything, they put it in a bad shape against the competition using wrong methods of comparing videos. This is why i only trust MY OWN EYES and that of my close friends, even the rewies, i don't trust them anymore, i read them only to know something about the game, but not much for the score, I WILL PUT MY OWN SCORE to the games that i like and to the games that i don't. It will be better for all you to do the same, not only the ps3 owners, but also 360 (you can maybe regret to play a game that has only inflated reviews and after to find that the game is mediocre).

please PROVE that to us with links.

I would like for GT to address the attached zoomed image from the DMC4 comparison. If the textures are the same there shouldn't be more (video/possibly mpeg)compression artifacts period in this realtime engine rendered FMV between the two consoles. Secondly texture artifacts look completely different than the artifacts contained in the PS3 side of the image, it is obvious that the PS3 video was compressed higher on top of being captured without RGB=Full.

Wow what a huge difference the 2nd picture looks all shiny and has way more detail.

rgb full was*** better for films, but not for all the game : uncharted for example is uggly with full rgb on : too "hard" (sharpness), and excessives colors.

I thought COD4 looked worse with RBG full turned on. Of course, COD4 looks terrible on the PS3 anyway, and I think the full RBG made the already horrible textures on that game look even worse.

FYI 360 has settings for "Reference Levels", which has three gradiations standard intermediate and expanded. Newer models support HDMI, which produces up to 1080p image and a digital audio connector all in one. However, the 360 can output the video signal through HDMI and still use the older connection to hook up analog speakers, for those who still want to use there particular setup.

WAY BACK when I first got my 360 I also picked up a 360 HD-VGA cable, which also produces up to 1080p and lets me connect to analog speakers through RCA (red and white). Back then, I used a set of Logitech x530s which came with a converter block that hooks up two RCA in one end, and three minijacks on the other. They were desktop speakers, and (obviously) I was using my desktop monitor as well. Everything looked and sounded great though!

But obviously this was always meant to be a temporary setup, mostly for space occupation reasons.

odd, the full rgb looks like my picture on my tv and i run component.

When I turn Full RGB on, the colors do look more vibrant and rich, however, some games look far too dark with it on. Personally, I prefer to play Sigma with Full RGB off while I would rather have it ON for UT3.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
