A world of puppies in a 1" x 1" cartridge

Nintendogs is a very unique game where instead of saving a princess or journeying to planet Zebes, you take care of a virtual puppy. Amazing as this sounds, it's one of my favorite DS games.

The gameplay is very basic. go to the dog kennel, pick a puppy (every dog has unique markings and a unique personality), buy a puppy, and you feed him, clean him, and play with him. You can also teach him tricks and enter him in contests to get more money, give him an accessory to wear, and take him for walks. All the while earning more points to unlock items and dog breeds. You can get more stuff by finding things on walks, or checking at the local store. There are 6 breeds to choose from at first (20 after you unlock them all). After a while, you really develop a connection with your puppy, and it's everything you can do to stop playing. You can also visit your friend's dogs and exchange gifts via Wireless Multi Card Play.

I'm just going to say it, this game possibly has the greatest graphics ever seen on DS. The dogs themselves could easily fit into a Gamecube or Wii game and would still probably be considered good graphics. The background isn't perfect, but still well done. And the sound is very realistic. The barks of the puppies sound almost real, and the music is fantastic as well. In addition, the game is entirely played on the touch screen, making everything very simple to understand (to wash your dog with the sponge, slide the stylus back and forth on your dog and touch the sprayer icon to wash off your dog).

There is only one reason I can think of to deny this game a 10, and it's quite simply that if you follow the same routine with your dog every day, then it starts to get a little repetitive. Still, if you like dogs, or are just looking for something new to play, then Nintendogs will keep you satisfied.
