Good! Now give us those incredible single player games!

What exactly is good tho ? it was a different team (usually nixxes) that was porting the games with a super small team, not like they invested their main powerhouses naughty dog or santa monica .This only hurts gamers in the long run as Ive often been a dual console and PC gamer for the last 10 years and where exactly is the best place to play something like uncharted 4 you think ? you should try it on a rtx 4090, the game even has an in game render enahcement that lets you double the resolution so something similar like DRS super resolution that can make the resolution 8k even tho your TV is only 4k, makes the image super crisp, I used to use this feature on all sony games like god of war, horizon, spiderman, last of us, ghost of tsushima, returnal, ratchet and clank etc and its just obvious that this was the best way to play these great exclusives, not exactly sure how you think us gamers are winning with this strategy, its not like sony is in third place like xbox that they need to start panicking.

Someone earlier on the PS blog mentioned they should even delist the games from steam and epic lol, I just don't get the panic,Sony has sold what like 92 million consoles with very few exclusives this generation compared to the ps3 and ps4 era, obviously I understand that this would mean the next xbox would be able to play the future playstation exclusives but again all xbox games very soon are getting published on playstation too anyways so in all honesty the xbox is never going to catch up to playstation again in my opinion. I absolutely understand that exclusives sell a console and hence I was a big fan especially of the ps3 that was pumping out exclusives on a constant basis, but let the actual console makers fight over that just like ps5 has outsold the ps3 in lifetime sales, why exactly should I care so much ? I simply want to play the great games at the highest possible quality and that is most definitely a high end PC, just like im sure some console gamers here purchased the ps5 pro due to the additional performance over the base Ps5 pro, now will I play the remaining exclusives that never came to PC on PS5 ? yes of course but it still would never be my first choice so yes I definitely got affected by this decision lol but I still strongly believe every gamer kinda did too they just don't realize it, if wolverine or ghost of yotei ends up being your favourite game of all time, the goal for everyone should have been to save up and experience it one day on an rtx 5090, its not even about bragging rights thats just childish baseless internet points, its just most obviously the best way to experience your favourite games in the highest possible quality that current technology allows and some of these games will never be able to shine or reach its full potential the way those earlier games did on PC

Extermin8or3_44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Long essay I cba to read all of it. Firstly it means nixxes will be freed up to remaster and remake older games as they have already been doing of late also means they are able to support songs other studios more as well.

Ultimately clearly Sony dont think there is value in releasing on pc or at least they feel that the negatives outweigh the positives and see doing so as detrimental to their console business else they wouldn't be making these moves.

No one really cares if playing the game on ps5 is your first choice or if you would rather wait and get it on pc. That ^ is exactly what Sony will want to avoid. They make most of their money out of third party titles sold on their hardware. If someone can only afford one console/pc for gaming they want it to be PlayStation and this is the best way to ensure that. Also with hardware now costing alot back like it did in early 2000s and 1990s, that makes a subsidised console perfectly placed to actually compete with pc for market share.

phatak44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

@Extermin8or3_ there is a 50% chance that nixxes gets shut down now brother rather than freed up to do other projects, just ask bluepoint which was the actual remaster and remake studio, I don't know why you are repeating what sony think lol I also know that's the reason they are probably choosing not to release future games on PC, but how exactly is it benefiting me the gamer like that guy above said "good" ? It's like hoping for a game like GTA6 and saying "good I hope it does not get any enhancements on the PS5 pro" and sony only focus on the Ps5 base version, just like gamers are still wanting a read dead 2 patch on ps5, why exactly do you think gamers want a 60 fps patch? its performance right, thats exactly the same reason I wanted the games to come on PC as well to eventually experience them on future hardware like 6090, 7090 etc at crazy high resolutions/ray tracing etc with all the bells and whistles.
Also I just pointed out that ps5 has outsold the ps3, do you know how many exclusives the ps3 had, I used to be a big ps3 fanboy back in the day it had like 50-60 exclusives, think really hard and tell me how many ps5 exclusives there are currently available as in games that you cannot play without buying a ps5 ? from top of my head all I can think of in terms of the big AAA games are 1) ghost of yotei 2) demons souls 3) astrobot , its literally 3 true large scale exclusives that one absolutely needs a ps5 to experience, and yet it sold 92 million consoles.

fr0sty44d ago

It harms Sony as piracy is everywhere on PC, gives people less reason to buy their consoles, and (in games with cross platform support) PC players often come with cheats. If it were my company, I wouldn't see the benefits worth the risks. They count their beans at the end of the night, they know what they're working with and what this experiment has done to their bottom line. With Microsoft trying to pull the "We'll make Xbox PC compatible" card, Sony was wise to nip that in the bud years before it could even become an issue.

Cacabunga44d ago

I have a very hard time believing it after they just closed Bluepoint..

fr0sty44d ago

Can't help but laugh at how 2 years ago Sony was criticized for only releasing remakes, and now they're criticized for not releasing enough and shutting down their remake studio.

Not releasing games on PC would lose them software revenue.

Releasing games on PC would lose them hardware revenue (and, consequently, software revenue). Especially with Steam Machine and a Windows driven Helix on the horizon.

Sony's choice, if true, is pure business. Nothing to get emotional about.

And secondly, Playstation games have always been exclusive to Playstation. Their (shortlived) PC strategy in comparison never was the status quo in the first place.

DarXyde44d ago

You're not wrong, but it's definitely worth unpacking the rationale because I'm not sure I understand it.

Simplest explanation is they want to sell more PlayStations. Fair enough. But I guess the question is... Why now? Because they want to shut down devaluing the brand early? I mean, maybe. But Sony would have definitely thought about this. They're aware of commercial performance on PC, unless they're seeing a big shift in users going to PC. Even if so, they could always have their own launcher and still control game prices.

I always held the idea that the issue was a new Xbox coming along and playing PlayStation games better than PlayStation, but if so, this response feels too early.

I don't know, the reasoning seems lost to me.

dveio44d ago

If you build a console and choose to release your exclusive games on PC, you get people waiting for the PC release. No matter if you wouldn't release it on PC eventually, unless you'd communicate it.

If you build a console and choose to release your games exclusively to it, you build the so called ecosystem. Revenue starts coming from hardware, software, subs, MTX. All through your store. You know that of course, so I don't wanna lecture about it.

Now - Sony did know that before. You're right. But the return wasn't worth it, obviously, especially knowing Steam Machine and Helix will be coming.

Theoretically speaking - knowing both systems are coming, especially Xbox still being the direct competitor (no matter their strategy), why would you, and I mean you, develop e.g. The Last of Us Part 3 for hundreds of millions of dollars and let your competition run it on their machine?

The risk of losing hardware revenue, especially with every revenue tied to after the purchase, is just too big. And quite understandable.

And again - Sony releasing their games exclusively on Playstation has always been the status quo for the biggest portion in their running history.

I reject any entitlement coming from the PC community demanding or phrasing it like Sony are taking away a given.

Because it's not.

thebaptist9444d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Where is the actual loss in hardware that sony has suffered ? ps5 projected to hit 100 million sales in the coming year so where are the lost console sales due to these PC ports ? they will even overtake the ps4 as this will be a longer generation this time.

The last thing they should do is worry about xbox which is currently in the gutter with 34 million sales like the first xbox. Least they could do is the timed exclusive stuff, just release on ps5 first and release 12-18 months later on PC but total abandonment just seems like an extreme step, in movie terms an analogy of what they are doing is stopping the sale of 4k blu rays and now if anyone is interested in their films they will only release it on dvd, okay then we all will watch dvds now, no more high end 4k blu rays for us even tho we were just watching a bunch of 4k blu rays just months ago.

Jingsing44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

The loss is from people like me who have bought games for PS1/2/3/4 at least about 100+ games for each console per generation, I've only bought 5 PS5 games and haven't turned it on in 3 years. Why? Because I didn't agree with them putting games on PC, especially when they got pirated for the most part and I'm subsidizing it. I'm not the only person who basically then went offline with their PS5 in response to this. They have clearly noticed.

I'm not even sure I'll buy a PS6 primarily because they broke trust over exclusive software in an underhand way and they might do it again.

Also putting "live service" games on PC when console users have to pay a subscription breaks trust with the consumer too. Unless they address that balance I'll never play any multiplayer games from them.

thebaptist9444d ago (Edited 44d ago )

@Jingsing if piracy was such a concern why does any publishing company like capcom/bethesda/ea/ubisoft/seg a/activison even release on PC , You don't think they factor that into the total profit/loss? Best example was something like Helldivers 2 which released on the same date on pc and ps5 and sold more than double the ps5 numbers so Pc players buy games too correct.

Also why would you take it so personally if they release your games on a totally different system ? that makes you mad for what, that they might get it for free ? Same as the movie example, so lets stop selling 4k blu rays because it might get pirated so instead we will only be mailing out dvds that only certain dvd players can play.

Also if you dont agree with Sony putting games on Pc and you mentioned not turning on your ps5 in 3 years where exactly do you play your games or on what system ? did you totally quit gaming over such a small thing or something, and in all honesty they don't care if you leave or stay, they will sell 100 million consoles with or without you so that's why I was saying that sony did not even really lose anything so far and is on track to overtake the ps4 so there have not been drones of people abandoning playstation over this.

dveio43d ago

@baptist

«Where is the actual loss in hardware that sony has suffered?»

How would we, both of us, really know?

Yet I do claim that going forward, looking at recently released Ghost of Yōtei, upcoming Saros, Wolverine and Intergalactic (probably not so much their games already released on PC, but still), that these mentioned games actually do carry the potential of selling additional hardware.

And again, at least that's my view, the impact of Xbox Helix and Steam Machine can't be underlined enough (really don't know why you can't see it?):

Sony has never faced TWO competitors that, right out of the box, would be able to run Playstation Studios games.

From Playstation's perspective: explain to me why you wouldn't worry about it and keep releasing your heaviest hitters on PC? Why would you do that? For what purposes?

One (!) single hardware unit sold draws SO much additional revenue. Losing one hardware unit being sold to PC, and not just "the" PC, but two new competing machine brands for only a software cut of only 70%, is simply irrational. And, even worse, losing a customer to Game Pass, instead of that customer subscribing to PS+.

... and, sadly though, another perspective, at least currently: building/buying a PC has become so expensive today (and it will only get worse imo), that a PS5 or even PS6 in direct comparison have the edge in price. Consoles always had it, ofc, but that edge gets more distinct the higher the prices go up, even if console prices do rise, too.

And again-again, a fact that you keep avoiding to even acknowledge?, Playstation games were always exclusive to Playstation. Nintendo are doing the same, by the way.

thebaptist9443d ago (Edited 43d ago )

@ dveio "how would both of us really know ?"
Because its on track to sell 100 million consoles dude, how else ? all we can look at is how much past playstation consoles sold in the similar time frame, if the ps5 ends up outselling the ps1,ps3,ps4 which It will then thats all that really matters, what if it actually beats the ps2 as well due to the potentially longer generation, would you call this generation a success, just imagine that instead, ps5 beat ps2 sales while putting most of their games on PC.

"Sony has never faced TWO competitors that, right out of the box, would be able to run Playstation Studios games. From Playstation's perspective: explain to me why you wouldn't worry about it and keep releasing your heaviest hitters on PC? Why would you do that? For what purposes?"

Exclusives just don't matter the same way they used to 15 years ago mainly because of the direct competition they face, thats the key point, which is the gutter console brand known as the xbox, in an alternate world where Microsoft would have been a serious competitor to Sony,I would be the first one to say exclusives matter and only then would it make sense to worry about project helix and putting their games on PC, I think you truly don't understand how bad Microsoft has fallen, thats the bigger story that sony releasing some PC games. Xbox series X/S is in like the first xbox and gamecube kind of territory and ps5 is in the ps2 kind of territory if we can compare them to the past generation.

Steam box is a weak PC too, im actually pretty confident in saying that if the ps6 also has only 5-10 exclusives like the ps5 the entire generation it will still end up selling 100 million consoles again just on the brand name alone along with third party games like GTA6 which will outsell xbox 3 to 1 in sales and release 1-2 years before the PC release, and also the fact that everyone has their entire digital libraries of ps4, ps5 games to carry forward. Sony has won the console wars, they have no direct competition as Nintendo is doing their own separate thing so that's why Sony released on PC in the first place, they know the console players wont just abandon them and run to PC, the same way naughty dog their flagship studio has not even released a single game the entire first 6 years of this generation and yet ps5 about to hit 100 million without a single Naughty dog game, imagine that in an earlier generation where Sony really really needed Naughty Dog for sales, Sony aren't even trying anymore due to the gutter competition.

dveio43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

«Sony has won the console wars»

They undeniably have.

Yet still they don't have to gift any of their upcoming exclusives to PC, Steam Machine and Xbox Helix.

All of Playstation's exclusive games, IF made available on these three systems, will instantly give those systems another USP to be bought instead of a Playstation.

I can go on and repeat it over and over again. It would definitely harm Playstation.

And as long as the brand 'Xbox' is still around, it will always be perceived as Playstation's direct competitor, no matter Microsoft's actual strategy on paper.

Xbox v. Playstation has been the WWE v. WCW in the gaming business, it won't be erased from the heads only because Spencer said they've exited the console wars.

And, one more time again (why do you keep avoiding it?):

Playstation games have always been exclusive to Playstation hardware. Sony's trial on PC did not erase their historical background, which always was to develop games exclusively for Playstation.

thebaptist9443d ago (Edited 43d ago )

@ dveio
"Yet still they don't have to gift any of their upcoming exclusives to PC, Steam Machine and Xbox Helix"

You think them releasing almost 90% of their entire ps5 exclusive portfolio on PC was just out of kindness or a gift ? They wanted a piece of the pie and after releasing almost everything have potentially decided to call it quits, my point being that they should not even call it quits now as xbox is dead and Sony about to sell 100 million consoles without a single naughty dog exclusive game and much less exclusives than any past playstation console, even the PS vita had more exclusives.

"Why do you keep avoiding it, Playstation games have always been exclusive to Playstation hardware"

Nobody is avoiding the question, plans change , that was the past and now currently plans have changed and hence they put their biggest games like spiderman, god of war, uncharted, last of us, ghost of tsushima, ratchet & clank, days gone on PC mainly because xbox imploded, if xbox and playstation were neck and neck like xbox360 and ps3 you think sony would ever put their exclusives on PC ? they just coasting now and my point is they can coast into the ps6 generation too rather than start worrying so early , this is not like the ps2 to ps3 transition where xbox was atleast making some grounds, that brand is totally finished now, especially in the digital era where digital libraries matter a lot and my official prediction is this will be the last xbox anyways

microsoft is wcw, sony is wwe, and they can coast into the wwe pg era but the difference being that with no direct competition they won't even suffer in the ratings which wwe pg era lost due to a lack of interest in the wwe product compared to the attitude era as I mentioned it will overtake the ps4 total sales and get close to ps2 numbers aka the era during which "Playstation games have always been exclusive to Playstation hardware", so in other words there has not been this large exodus of people fleeing the PS5 and I don't see them fleeing during PS6 either even if it only had few exclusives like ps5 . Sony is currently in the wwe pg era but still with the ratings of the attitude era.

dveio43d ago

«You think them releasing almost 90% of their entire ps5 exclusive portfolio on PC was just out of kindness or a gift?»

No. They wanted revenue. They got it. But it appearantly didn't reach their expectations.

«that was the past and now currently plans have changed»

Exactly.

And a new change of the current state will happen very soon again, with Xbox Helix and Steam Machine.

Sony adapt to it. It's pure business.

thebaptist9443d ago (Edited 43d ago )

@dveio
"And a new change of the current state will happen very soon again, with Xbox Helix and Steam Machine"

True and my point is there was no need to change course on a console/competition that will be dead on arrival, my prediction is ps6 sales in first 2 years will be higher than project helix total lifetime sales from year 1 to year 8 or how ever long the generation lasts even if project helix could have played the ps6 exclusives via the PC method but alas we will never know since that won't happen but just imagine what xbox has done to its brand, that even if the next xbox could play uncharted, rachet, last of us, sony would have whopped xbox in 2 years. Hence, they should have continued on their path rather than "react to supposed competition", time will tell soon anyways so we will see where both stand.

They're just doing this because they have an $800-$1000 console coming (PS7) and need everything possible to use as a selling point.

StoneTitan44d ago

The ps6 will be the same price as the ps5. They are going to sell at a slight loss. Like always. The pro is the profit machine. So thats why it will never be 800 or even close to it

GotGame81844d ago (Edited 44d ago )

LOL! The PS5 Pro is $899 plus tax! Thinking the PS6 is going to be $800, isn't realistic. PS5 and PRO just had another price hike at almost 6 years into this gen!

Oh, and I wish you were right! I don't really feel like spending $3,000 next gen. Just to start. Extra controllers, launch games, plus the consoles.

Look back at what made PlayStation great. It was stellar exclusives. Games that made people’s jaw drop and want to go out and get a PlayStation console.
