The original ‘Gothic’ trilogy is coming to consoles in 2026

"Get ready to return to the Colony, sharpen your blade, and relive a true RPG legacy: all three Gothic Classics are making their way to PlayStation and Xbox Series S|X later this year." - THQ Nordic.

1 and 2 are allready on switch, wonder if that'll get 3 as well.

That's a very good question, I sure hope so at least.

Nice to see the original Gothic trilogy getting a console release—those games have a strong legacy in classic RPG design, especially with their open-ended progression and reactive worlds. That said, the key question is how well they’ll translate to modern consoles. The original control scheme and UI were pretty clunky even back then, so meaningful updates (without losing the core feel) will be important.
If this is a faithful port with quality-of-life improvements—controller optimization, performance stability, and maybe some visual polish—it could introduce a new audience to something special. Otherwise, it might end up feeling too dated for players who didn’t grow up with it.

Gothic Classic trilogy for PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, and Xbox One dated

THQ Nordic has dated the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One versions of the Gothic Classic trilogy, which were first announced to be coming to the platforms back in August 2025.

Didn't realise you get the original Gothic when you pre-order. Very cool!

That’s cool.. I preordered Gothic remake a long time ago but it was delisted for a short time on Amazon and now up again I believe.

I would have preferred they put all 3 together for 70-80$ but I guess this way if you only want to buy one you can spend less. I want physical copies but I’ll preorder Gothic remake anyway and keep the physical closed for 1.

The release timing makes sense given the continued interest in classic RPGs, but it’ll really come down to how well these versions are adapted for modern consoles. If this is just a straight port, it might struggle to attract new players who aren’t already nostalgic for the series. On the other hand, if there are meaningful improvements—like updated controls, performance optimizations, or UI tweaks—it could be a good way to reintroduce Gothic to a wider audience. Curious to see whether this is more of a preservation effort or something closer to a light remaster.

'Gothic 3 Classic' Switch Rating Surfaces On The ESRB

Could an announcement be on the way?

I find this doubtful. Even the modding community on this PC haven't worked out all the issues with this game. It would have had to be totally retooled, from the ground up. I don't see them taking on the task to totally remake a game only known for it's horrible technical and gameplay issues.

What they should be doing is bringing the original two to the other consoles. The other Piranha Bytes games did decently on console over the years.

It’s always interesting when an ESRB rating shows up before any official announcement, since that usually means something is at least in the pipeline. In this case, Gothic 3 Classic being rated for Switch (and other platforms) suggests a port is likely being prepared, even if plans aren’t finalized yet.
That said, ratings alone don’t guarantee a release—there have been cases where listings were removed or projects delayed. The fact this one was reportedly taken down shortly after appearing could mean it was premature or tied to a later reveal window.
Given that the first two Gothic games already made it to Switch, a third entry would make sense for consistency. The bigger question is how well Gothic 3—which originally launched with technical issues—would be optimized for the hardware this time around.

If the switch is getting something physically the ps5 is not then I want be purchasing physical or until it's super cheap. Shame I actually like and bought risen 2 and 3, elex 1 and 2, and plan on buying risen 1 as I like this studios games.

I wonder why they re-released these on the Switch only? They're missing out on potential sales. I really hope they port Gothic 3 next, that's the one I want to play the most. The PC version unfortunately doesn't have controller support. If they port Gothic 3, and then release the entire trilogy as a physical copy on PS5 I'd be over the moon.

It’s interesting to see the original Gothic titles coming to Nintendo Switch, especially as a bundled release. The games have a strong cult following, but they’re also known for clunky controls and dated mechanics, so it will depend heavily on how well they’re optimized for console play. If the port improves stability and usability, it could be a good way for new players to experience them. Otherwise, it may appeal more to longtime fans than newcomers.
