Pocket Tactics got to spend some time with Mario Tennis Fever, which looks like it could signal a real return to form for Nintendo's sporting spin-offs.

The moment-to-moment gameplay is exciting, Fever Rackets add chaotic, unexpected fun to each match, and the huge roster encourages lots of experimentation. Yet the game falters somewhat when it comes to modes, particularly single-player modes. Adventure Mode, if you can call it that, is a letdown, and several complementary modes get stale after a while. Still, the fundamentals are rock solid. If you're looking for another title to slot into game night, or if you're serious about climbing the rankings online, this is a smart investment."

Even though it has fun multiplayer modes, great gameplay, and a lot of unlockables, it's not quite the best Mario sports game ever. It's easy to suggest to Mario and multiplayer fans, but don't expect a deep single-player campaign.
