Skate Story Review | NoobFeed

Wasbir from NoobFeed writes: Skate Story was not made to meet the typical standards of a skating game. It doesn't give you a choice, limits replay ability, and resists mastery fantasies. What it does offer is a link between the theme, the physics, and the mood. Instead of viewing skateboarding as a sport, Skate Story views it as a theory.

Skate Story (PS5) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Karl Koebke: "While it’s not perfect, Skate Story is the best skateboarding game I’ve played in years. Recently EA’s skate series released a new iteration and, although it had the same controls I grew to love from playing through the first three games, I found myself losing interest after a couple of hours. While Skate Story could do with a free roam element of its own, EA’s skate decided to lean too heavily into free roaming and not include a notable story mode, so it lost any sense of progression, and that really hurt my interest in the game. Conversely, there are some who won’t enjoy Skate Story's blend of semi-realistic skateboarding controls with a completely bonkers narrative, but I found it compelling and would recommend it to anyone who has even a passing interest in skateboarding."

Regrettably, Skate Story has a story to tell | Quarter to Three Review

Qt3's Woodlance: "I didn’t set out to dislike Skate Story. I have a huge soft spot for solo developers. Bless their hearts, hacking away at their masterpieces in solitude for years. Toby Fox, of Undertale fame, mentioned in an interview that developing solo frees the developer and the player from certain expectations. Skate Story is certainly idiosyncratic, no doubt about that. I’m glad that it exists, it’s a little miracle that it does. On the other hand, being a one-man band is a huge burden. All I’m saying, you can’t expect everyone to be a visual designer, a computer programmer and a great storyteller, all at once."

i loved this game the moment it was revealed. the music. the vibe. then i played it and i agree so much with this review.

the dev couldnt see how frustating it is to be interrupted by meaningless / weird dialog constantly. im at chapter 3 and i feel like it is never going to let me skate in peace. what a shame. ill still keep playing it but its weird game design. the dialog is not funny, its not clever. its just dialog. its very short most if the time, but it serves no purpose other than break your flow. :/
