Nothing will ever convince me that a controller should cost 100 bucks but I know for a fact that this will be better than all the official console controllers combined. The Steam Deck has the best controls I've ever used, the extra buttons and touch pad is something desperately needed in gaming. You really notice when you play a game on PC that uses a keyboard, once you switch to a controller there's mechanics you lose out on because of the current console controller scheme.

The loss of function goes both ways moving from controller also. I wouldnt say the quality, and feel or spacing of the steam deck is all that good but its not bad. I dont think by looking at this that the controller is as good / better than a console controller in every sense or even in some senses because a lot of it is going to need to be felt in-hand... Because based on how it looks at a glance, its a high up grip and a long ass thumb reach to use the pads below the sticks, if you transition that grip or tilt your thumb down to use those, its going to be more of an either-or situation unless you reposition and that may not matter for SOME games.... I dont really think it matters if its better than a console controller or not , because very few PC games will every truly truly truly tune for it the way that console games tune for their controllers.

it definitely feels like it might be a "use the thumb sticks OR use the track pads". It might be hard to utilize a combination of the two based on positioning on the controller.

Uh, no. I have a Steam Deck and playing on it sucks. Its too big, the touchpads get in the way, you tend to accidently press the back buttons, and when you turn it off expect to spend a day trying to turning it back on again.

Honestly, the best controller ever made was the original Xbox 360 controller. I had gamed for years on a dual shock controller until one day, at a LAN party, I held one of these babies and played Bad Company 2/Call of Duty 4 for the first time ever since I was never interested in shooters before. God, that experience was glorious.

It looks great, day one for sure.

Hmm? Might go well with Project Helix. PC is the future. Let's see if Microsoft can beat the Steam controller? 🎮

Loktai27d ago

People have been saying PC is the future of gaming since the 90s ... and ultimately the PC just became a dumping ground for most games to be sold on Steam and never have physical releases. You have to spend so much to get a pc thats actually superior to the console experience,.. at least currently, and game devs have to contend with PC being the highest piracy, hacking, and other issues prone platform, as well as the hardest to eliminate bugs and weird glitches on, and the hardest to penetrate emerging markets with "current" style games ( Indie games and low end games that run on anything will run on the average computer in say.... the philipines, but Pragmata wouldnt as an example), I think the PC is more relevant for gaming than it has ever been but is at a historic high bar for cost of entry and a "bang for your buck" standpoint - you can argue a PCs other functions but for most users who arent gaming the PC that will do those productivity tasks costs between 0 and 100 bucks or under 1000 for a decent one- adding "gaming" into it will cost you a lot more than just buying a console at this moment- It sickens me as an OG PC gamer who started out when the only thing that really mattered was your Processor and if the game fit in ram or not.

Really well said. I used to game on PC in the 90s and early 2000s. But with DRM, multiple storefronts, PC ports not being optimized properly, the thousands of variations of hardware you can have... it just is more complicated and prone to more issues. I got fed up with games crashing, incompatible hardware, etc. That was my own personal experience, at least. Also I couldn't afford to upgrade every few years whereas a new console every 7 years is more doable. It just works. Pop the game in and voila. It works. But a PC is useful for other things. But again, like you said, if you need to do those things, it costs a lot less than a gaming PC. I'm not prepared to spend 1000 on a PC to then have to buy gaming accessories like a headset, K&M, monitor...

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing25d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9225d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit25d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing25d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9225d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
