Crimson Desert on PS5 Pro: This Is How Good It Looks And How Well It Runs

Digital Foundry: "We still need to see more, of course. For PS5 Pro, we want to see the improvements brought about by the upgraded PSSR. Right now I prefer playing the balanced mode, but if the new PSSR is as effective as we think it is, the base 1080p from the optimal mode may still deliver an impressive experience with higher frame-rates. Beyond that, we've yet to see anything on the base PS5 or Xbox Series consoles. Even so, the signs are looking good - and certainly for PS5 Pro owners, Crimson Desert delivers a phenomenal experience."

Only PS5 Pro, so questionable how it will be on PS5. I am glad to see it's a more lively world than what they've shown before.

Ashunderfire8678d ago

Don't worry PS5 version will run good, especially since its low RT with the spec options. I bet if they gave you the ability to turn off RT, it would run beautifully.

Eonjay78d ago

I think it will look and perform like the pro except for reduced RT coverage and lower resolution. No real surprises here.

cbuc112578d ago (Edited 78d ago )

If it has lower RT and resolution, it isn't "performing" like the Pro.

Eonjay77d ago

@cbuc1125

I think we are saying the same thing in two different ways. When I say perform I am speaking in absolute terms about the framerate. I am saying that I expect the framerate to roughly be similar across the board and for differences to be mostly down to resolution (image quality) and RT which should be noticeably better on the Pro.

bionicstar77d ago

This game's performance is very questioning, they didn't give Digital Foundry a game code, but a PS5 pro with game installed on it.

This is with PSSR 2 yet to be added too. It's gonna be fantastic

Christopher78d ago

I think they said there was PSSR2, but it wasn't working as well as it should?

The technical aspects in the game are a good advancement in some regards, though.

mkis00778d ago

No they said pssr2 isn't implemented yet in the build they tested.

Eonjay77d ago

They keep repeating over and over that it is PSSR 1 and they can't wait to see PSSR 2.

From my perspective, the game already looks great though and I think this speaks to the overall spectical being the main draw... even above the image quality. So even if the new ML solution boosts image quality, its underlying framework will looking amazing on any supported platform.

Christopher77d ago

Thanks. I watched it while working and must have misheard when I was listening.

PS5 Pro accounts for maybe 15% of the PS5 user base? (according to US sales for 2025). It's like posting a video using the RTX4090 / RTX5080 / RTX5090 and then telling everyone, look how good it looks & runs. Of course it's gonna do well on the BEST hardware for the platform. Let's see how it does on the "regular" hardware...

andy8577d ago

Won't be much different, seems like its a CPU based game. If its running well at PSSR 4k and high RT it should run great at 1080p low RT

Grilla77d ago

They literally shipped Digital Foundry a pro with Crimson desert pre installed. I own a pro and I think that’s kinda shady.

PRIMORDUS77d ago (Edited 77d ago )

If this game was using UE5, I like to call it Shit Engine 5 there would be issues, without a doubt.

MehmetAlperTR77d ago

Crimson Desert is built on Pearl Abyss’s proprietary BlackSpace Engine, a high-performance, in-house technology designed for stunning, detailed visuals, complex physics, and advanced real-time ray tracing. It enables 4K resolution, high-fidelity lighting, and dynamic environmental effects, often surpassing major industry engines like Unreal Engine 5 in performance demos.

QuantumMechanic77d ago (Edited 77d ago )

I was excited to buy the game. However, I just learned today that the PS5 physical disc release has an unplayable build, requiring a 40-GB Day-1 patch in order to install the game. Needless to say, I will not buy it now!

Eonjay77d ago

What is your link for that? I ask because DF is playing the game without the day one patch. So when you saw unplayable, im a little confused.

Good score.
I’ll admit this game does get better at like the 20hour mark.
Had to force myself since I bought it but with the way pearl abyss is updating is definitely an 8-8.5 now. Side quest is still a chore. Especially when I have to follow someone and they slow ass hell. Biggest gripe is some quest has me going hella far and then the person move to somewhere even further to complete. Like why lol

what a garbage crimson desert review. seriously go F yourselves . there is no way in hell i can take edge seriously after such a blatant dumb review

Obelisk9244d ago

Call me a fool, but I like those scores. I can understand why someone would rate CD an 8 or higher, but I also understand why someone would rate it a 5.
Marathon is goated so well deserved.

andy8544d ago

A 5 😂 it just getting funnier. I'm baffled what the agenda is from some of these outlets

Yi-Long44d ago

Super Meat Boy 3D a 4 seems ridiculously low.

A 5 for Crimson Desert will probably be another stain on Edge's already very spotty record.

andy8544d ago

It's madness. In all my years of gaming I've never seen critic reviews and player reviews have such disparity. It's like they're playing a different game

garos8243d ago

its insane isnt it? i mean what game are these clowns playing? im playing on base ps5 , the game looks , plays , great. so much stuff to do and im constantly thinking about the game even when im at work. ive been gaming since the mid 90s , its been a while since ive had this sense of wonder as i do for CD

coolbeans44d ago

I typically don't join the chorus here, but my personal beef is GreedFall only netting a 5. Figured they'd at least give a bit more credit to Spiders rolling the dice by going quasi-turn-based.
