This really doesn't look that great. Outside of the technical standpoint which all their games excel at, I'll never understand the appeal of Horizon. It's Sonys Ubisoft-like game with polish. It follows all the same old open world gameplay tropes that Ubisoft get blasted for.

Cacabunga105d ago

I’m totally saturated with Horizon that even the music theme of it gives me the creeps…
And made as gass? Couldn’t get any worse

S2Killinit105d ago

Looks great. If gameplay is nailed I see it doing good. I’m personally a fan of Horizon as its a solid single player game with amazing graphics, great fighting mechanics, and great story line, but these co-op games are too complicated for me. My brother who likes multiplayer games would probably love this though.

hombreacabado105d ago

i agree give me a new killzone im tired of horizon.

Kosic105d ago

I agree with you there. I played the first one, got through 99% of the story and just didn't walk over the finish line (not sure why).
It was a large open world with check point tasks. The biggest let down for me, while it's a hunter gathering game, you go into a new zone and buy the best weapons/armours, and repeat. I was hoping you go into new zones, explore and get rewarded with new weapons, but I don't remember that ever happening in the first game.

I never played the 2nd, but someone told me that was the same?

I like the concept, it could prove fun, but I'm not a fan of the cartoony Fortnite-like art style. I wish they'd just stuck to how the original games looked. This looks more like a Fortnite crossover than a proper Horizon game.

badz149106d ago

Monter Hunter spin-off from the Horizon IP? seems interesting and hopefully it will be different enough from Monster Hunter. I'm willing to give it a try. I totally get why they changed the art style and hopefully the game will be accordingly priced, something like HD2. what kinda pissed me off is they said it's canon to the Horizon universe, but then why aren't those characters coming from the many tribes in the game? why no mention of the tribes at all?

peppeaccardo105d ago (Edited 105d ago )

Horizon is a milestone game and a work of great creativity from one of the most prolific SONY studio. Interesting the multiplayer approach and the graphic style which I dig quite a lot.
I am sure that if we enjoyed the previous game this is going to be a must have for all Horizon's fun out there ... and they are where a lot. All of those who are downvoting or criticizing should first see the final product first hand for an honest judgement otherwise is just a lame push against SONY.

spicelicka105d ago

Looks like generic slop with the cringe flashy Fortnite art-style to draw in 9 year olds.

I signed up for the closed beta. I need to see how the gameplay is first and foremost.

VenomUK106d ago

This game looks like it was designed by committee, unlike Horizon Steel Frontiers which looks like it was designed for fans.

The first person on the official PlayStation blog makes the great point that Sony is releasing this, like PSVR2, without fanfare, a high profile game without a State of Play. Why? Is it because Sony doesn’t believe the game is very good, or because it simply doesn’t know how to promote its own games?

S2Killinit105d ago

None of what you said made any sense to me. Lots of speculation and conjecture the likes of which I haven’t heard since I’ve been gaming.

VenomUK105d ago (Edited 105d ago )

@S2Killinit There's nothing wrong with you being a vociferous supporter of rights supporting marginalised communities - I've read some of your previous comments in support of Dragon Age the Veilguard and how you championed the press-up scene. That's your prerogative - but that type of game is not for everyone.

The development team of Horizon Hunters Gathering is Western and it shows - almost all the characters in the trailer are fat or blue or purple-haired. By focusing on unattractive characters to celebrate their diversity demonstrates that uniqueness was valued over the desires of the audience - this looks like Concord 2.0. I literally can't believe Sony didn't learn from its very expensive mistake. Horizon Steel Frontiers looks exciting and the characters look good and are aspirational, it's made by an Asian team and they often focus more on gameplay and the player experience over messaging. I'd rather play Steel Frontiers than this dead duck.

Christopher106d ago

This looks like a MH mixed with modern Battle Royal concepts. My problem is that big studios are less and less making SP games and more are focusing on MP games with a focus on live service. I just don't care about playing with other people and thereby being 'sold' the idea that I have to keep feeding money to play with them and look cool doing it. I'll keep looking to Indies for my SP fix most of the time it seems.

-Foxtrot106d ago

The excuse here seems to be “it has a narrative so it can be played solo…you happy” and it’s like come on, this is a co-op focused game first and foremost, the solo side of it will probably be terrible and is there purely for show.

Christopher106d ago

Nah, it can't. The gameplay they talked about requires multiple people and it's time limited. So you're just repeating the procedurally created scenarios with random enemies and buffs over and over. I highly doubt they're pulling off a Hades type of narrative with it. Just feeding that 15 minute MP desire with more future modes that will surely end up being rotated in on a weekly or so basis because you don't want to split the community too much between too many modes.

fan_of_gaming106d ago

@Christopher they stated in the reveal video that the campaign can be played solo with NPCs

Christopher106d ago

***@Christopher they stated in the reveal video that the campaign can be played solo with NPCs ***

Yeah, I'm hesitant on what that means. It's not the fault of Guerilla, it's the fault of this focus on MP experiences and how it's rotted other games (like Overwatch and it's SP content). Guerilla is just the latest company being beholden to those demands.

I know I sound jaded, but I hope people can be honest and look at the industry this generation and see how AAA have evolved to this sort of thinking even though Sony backed off a little.

Eonjay106d ago

I really enjoy playing with other people. That's the difference. But thats okay. We can have both. The stupid fighting starts when people act like we can only have one way of playing. Thats so lame. I don't even understand where that comes from. During the announcement, they pledge their continued support for SP and I am really hyped for the end of the Horizon main story arc with Alloy. But I am also excited to explore the wider universe. In addition to this, I would love for them to make a coop Enduring Victory game.

Christopher106d ago

My point is that while they say they're still making SP games, Sony has drastically cut their SP output and invested and produced more MP content this generation. Sure. Both can happen. But let's not ignore that there hasn't been a pretty big shift at Sony and other AAA studios. That's why I also highlight Indies as the major source for SP games.

Christopher106d ago

And the fact that more AAA studios are making Live Service MP games, that means you're not hurting for games at all. The fact is, SP, let alone good ones, are falling off from them. So, coming and saying 'well, I also like MP' isn't really talking about what I'm saying. You're already eating well if you like to play with other people.

S2Killinit105d ago

Not all games need to be single player game. We can have all genres of games. I notice that people complain about multiplayer games, then when a single player game like Ghost of Yotei is coming, they still complain.

darthv72106d ago

Hell Divers 3: Horizon Edition.

Eonjay106d ago

I was just saying that I hope they make an Enduring Victory coop Horizon game. That would be amazing.

Eonjay106d ago

I understand that its not for everyone, but I would hope that people would not try to rob me of something I might enjoy. That just seems selfish. And there are tons of games I'm not interested in but I know the world doesn't revolve around me so more power to the people enjoying those games.

isarai_lee106d ago

Bro wut?!

How is me not playing something, robbing you of anything? 🤔

If you know the world doesn’t revolve around you then why make that comment?

I'm sure the responses should be... interesting.

Personally, I have no interest. Then again I did not get the survey, so it doesn't matter what i think.

Christopher99d ago

"You can play the campaign with bots."

Okay, why can't I play everything else with bots as well? Why do you make the end game co-op?

Cacabunga98d ago

Too much waste of resources instead of giving the world a new Killzone with a solid multiplayer that will keep the gamers play it for years..

We only want KZ2 remake!!! Can’t be hard to apprehend!!!

__y2jb98d ago

For the past decade, I have never heard Killzone mentioned anywhere except n4g. Its a dead franchise which no one remembers. It was also rubbish.

SimpleDad99d ago

No interest in this crap.
Another McDonald's Gathering game.

-Foxtrot99d ago

They should do another one which gets to the point quicker

“Do you want us to continue pursuing live service online games?”

Cacabunga98d ago (Edited 98d ago )

They will hit the wall once more.. seems like they are enjoying it

Rebel_Scum99d ago

No interest and I’d expect this to be DOA. I really think they’re putting to much stock behind the Horizon brand. Its a good game but after 2 mainline games there really doesn’t need to be more.

StarcrossedBits99d ago

I fell in love with the world in the first game. Some of the best environmental storytelling of any game I've played.

After the second game, I had no interest in ever revisiting the world. Great job guys.

Cacabunga98d ago

Funny i have it the exact same way.. just hearing the theme music is unbearable somehow…

victorMaje98d ago

That’s exactly how I feel. Even though the 2nd’s world is technically more detailed & more defined, I became unphased as to discovering it.

Storm2395d ago

I disagree. I absolutely loved both games and enjoyed Forbidden West even more than the 1st. I know many don't agree with me. I can't wait for the 3rd mainline entry. But I do agree with most in that this may be fun for some, I don't see myself ever playing it even though I love the franchise. I hope it doesn't hurt the studio really badly because they are insanely talented and my ultimate dream is a new Killzone game. Even Killzone 2 remastered with MP would tke over my life.

Going to have to disagree. The first was amazing. The second improved on it in almost every way. Can't wait for a proper sequel.
