Not a big deal. This seems to be a clickbait article. CGI trailers are used in a lot of games in the very early stages.

Christopher41d ago

It's part of the interview and he says that himself, about it being fake.

Reaper22_41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Its was only a pre-rendered concept video which are all fake. The game didnt exist so it wasn't a fake because its only a concept. It was only saying the game was coming. There were no labels attached to the reveal saying in engine or anything like that. The ones who actually played the first 2 know what they're getting.
Devs do this all the time.
Dead Island
Killzone 2
99%of mobile games...lol
Trailers like that are only to create hype and secure funding and market the vision of the game in early development when actual gameplay is not yet polished or event non- existent. Like i said its not a big deal. And who the hell cares if zombie deer is in a game.
Even the title at the top says it was a reveal trailer.

dveio41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

It definitely did not serve the Xbox Series generation well to have had so many too early announced/shown/canceled projects.

It's a totally valid criticism towards the former executives running the show, and I think it's almost safe to say that they had misled parts of the Xbox community, wether with intent or not.

Some million Series adopters could have easily saved their money and could have gotten a PS5 instead, especially considering the current state of all games available on Playstation + Playstation's exclusive catalogue.

Unless Quick Resume was the USP they didn't want to miss out on anyhow.

Reaper22_41d ago

There's no need to get a ps5 if the games you want aren't on ps5. Xbox also has an exclusive catalog and you dont need a subscription service to play them. Game preservation is important to me and sony doesnt really make that a priority. If I bought resistance I should be able to play it on ps5 without barriers.

Nyxus41d ago

Microsoft is horrible when it comes to physical releases though, which is also a very important aspect of preservation.

Z50141d ago (Edited 41d ago )

"As long as I get to play my games"

You bought it. You still can play it, right?

dveio41d ago

@Reaper

What are these games exclusively to Xbox Series?

Reaper22_41d ago

For example I still like to play firefight in Halo reach but there are way too many to name and I said xbox not just series.

Reaper22_41d ago

@nyxus
Physical media is dying and has been for years. Its inevitable. As long as I get to play my games. Thats what most people care about. Modern consoles dont run games from the disc anyway and almost all of them dont contain the final versions. Some game disc dont even have all the data which forces you to download the game anyway. I like physical media but we dont need it.

Nyxus41d ago

I'm not going to bother when so much what you're saying is false.

Reaper22_41d ago

Well prove it if so much is false. Take a survey of all released game within the next 2 months and come back and let us know how many are physical.

ChunkyMonk41d ago

You do know Sony is making a handheld right? When has a handheld ever played disks? lol

badz14940d ago

@ChunkyMonk

"When has a handheld ever played disks?"

PSP

Urrakia3441d ago

I invite you to visit doesitplay.org which is a website with info on whether or not a game is actually on disc, if it requires downloads or online connectivity and other relevant details.

I typically use it before I purchase my physical games because I care A LOT about having actual ownership of my games collection and refuse to support companies that don't have the game files on disc. I waited a year plus to finally buy Alan Wake 2 physically for example, I refused to buy it digital.

Reaper22_41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

You are highly mistaken. It doesnt matter. If they dont want you to use your disc they can stop you very easily. You dont own what's on the disc anyway. You never will. You only own the physical medium and you purchase a license, and that license is revocable. They can render physical media unusable anytime they want.

And you most likely did buy Alan Wake digital. You just didnt know it. Your disc is just a physical license key that says you bought the game disc.

isarai_lee41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Realer22_

Bro first learn about how disc drives, and disc formats work before spouting nonsense. If we're talking pure numbers, FAAAR more games work fine out the box than not, EA, MS, UBI and Bethesda are not the ONLY publishers out there bro. Also the most they can do is patch in a soft lock on the console side so that it won't play the disc, to which a factory reset will easily fix, and that's such an extreme example. But neither the discs or the drive are BD-RW/RE they are only BD-R, it would be really expensive to make them all BD-RW/RE, like A LOT MORE EXPENSIVE

Nyxus41d ago

@ Reaper: "They can render physical media unusable anytime they want."

Wtf am I reading? How can anyone even think this?

andy8540d ago

I didn't buy Alan wake digital. I bought it physical no matter how much data was on there and then I sold that physical copy. Which I couldn't have done if it was digital.

andy8540d ago

Day one games are still close to 50% physical. Those aren't dying. Until it actually dies I'll be there

BlaqMagiq140d ago (Edited 40d ago )

Everything you said about physical media has been proven false BTW. Most games on disc can be played from start to finish even without a patch. Also hundreds of games on disc contain all the data necessary to run the game. A Twitter user by the way of @Doesitplay has already proven that. People gotta stop this tired narrative that physical media is dying. It couldn't be further from the truth.

"I like physical media but we don't need it."

This statement right here literally tells us you DON'T like physical media because if you did you wouldn't say we don't need it.

What a scum bag phil spencer is, im sure he forced them to use fake gameplay.

Reaper22_40d ago

There was no gameplay shown in that video.

isarai_lee41d ago

Was anyone believing an obviously CG trailer was real? 🤔

Reaper22_40d ago

Apparently, it took about 6 years for some to realize that.

If GTA 6 abandons everything that made GTA 5 great, it will crash and burn right out of the gate. GTA 5 was funny and not at all PC. My worry is that they will cave to the PC crowd and ruin the vibes.

Eonjay19d ago

They got freaking BBLs twerking on the top of trucks for the gram, the freaking Flordia joker, and dude running down the stree in their undies and you are worried about it being 'too PC'? The internet has runied gamers. It doesn't matter how non-PC they make the game, you will all listen to the grifters telling you not to believe your lying eyes lol.

gigoran818d ago

"Rockstar Games’ co-founder and former VP of Development Jamie King said he envisions GTA 6 as a game that’s “maybe not quite as edgy or quite as funny” as its satirical predecessors."

oh yeah, totally internet grifters spreading rumors...

blacktiger18d ago

That's part of the plan, they destroyed you but they need to destroy the shareholders? Only 1 shre holder is the true elite that don't care

1nsomniac19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Meh.., if it’s above £55 I ain’t buying it.

Rockstar are genuinely not half the company they used to be. I was a die hard GTA fan I’ve purchased every game and expansion and spin off day 1.

My opinion of GTA6 is that I can take it or leave it. Not bothered. They burnt too many bridges.

DaReapa19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

So they're actually leaving the door open for an L.A. Noire sequel? Nice!

VaNdAl19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

He should just come out and say it already it's getting stupid it's going to be a 100 bucks $200 for the special edition🤡🤡; 29315;🤣♿

Storm2318d ago

I won't be getting this game until I can get it for $70. SHoot, I could wait for it to be even lower. I don't need the game that badly as my backlog is still huge and I am enjoying playing other things.

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn221d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn220d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown20d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay20d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay20d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac20d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger21d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300020d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde20d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde20d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".
