Highguard official Twitter: "Today we’re sharing difficult news. We have made the decision to permanently shut down Highguard on March 12.
Since launch, more than 2 million players stepped into Highguard’s world. You shared feedback, created content, and many believed in what we were building. For that, we are deeply grateful."

The developer behind the infamous shooter Highguard seems to be nearing its end, as Wildlight begins wiping its online presence.
Don't get the point of opening a studio to make a guaranteed flop. They didn't have enough funds to keep people employed so that they could keep the game updated, which meant the game was going to shut down with or without their GOTY announcement. They had the talent, they could've been rolling in that successful indie game money if they had just made something else with a price tag. It's crazy.
Sucks for the members.
Next don't make a game nobody wants, and in a genre that's way over saturated.

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "Whether a more cautionary tale about relying on future plans, Hero shooters in today's market, or suspicious advertising, Highguard nevertheless earns some appreciation. It's not often a shooter feverishly pastiches so many other personalities and comes out cementing its own. The drawback in Wildlight's case, though, is how said identity conflicts with player engagement, as though the fervor of exploring minute details distracted from grander structural concerns. But even with those criticisms and a roadmap now left unrealized in mind, what's left is still a rewarding shooter that knows how to make you say "just one more game... just one more game.""

Story Mode on why live service games can't expect to thrive on just competence, that they need something more. In the case of Marathon, "With Bungie at the helm, the same Bungie that defined not one but two generations of gaming — with Halo in 2001 and Destiny 2 in 2017 — ‘just another extraction shooter’ isn’t going to cut it.
Probably not as fast but it will eventually
It seems it will have its dedicated hardcore fanbase but as soon as the next shiny GaaS game is out they’ll move on or go back to the one they were already playing for months
The hate for this is so forced. Saw some people being triggered the game has a positive rating on steam. Marathon doesn't need very high players to be successful. It needs a consistent player base. For example, look at a game like Warframe. Within the last 3 years, the game normally gets between 50K-70K on steam a day and has only gone above 15OK 3 times in 6 years. I seriously feel like this game doing well long-term might put some very miserable gamers on suicide watch.
Gunplay is solid for this game and has been what I've been looking for in awhile. But everything else comes off as mid/nothing special to me.
i put alot of hours in this in game because i had nothing to play also for the trophies it was a ok game surprised to see it shutting down but i wont be playing it again.
That is fast! Just 45 days?
This was some money laundering scheme because this shut down was way too quick. Same with Concord, ain't no way these companies would willingly just waste money into making something that is guaranteed to flop unless they're doing it on purpose. Ain't no way that rather than work to improve their game and make it more successful over time they would just shut it down unless there was some shady reason behind it. Refuse to believe that it's all just people being THAT dumb.
good night sweet prince
may studios everywhere ignore this and try again
