I think this gen started bad for them, but they are making a turn with effort.
Gamespot confirmed multiple endings, heavy focus on exploration, NPC quests, mini-games, and lots of other stuff.
Classical FF staggered with FFV. FFVI to FFVIII were completely revolutionary, then FFIX came with a step to the origins and then FFX inwards the revolution came with each game.
So if you want classic FF as in FFI to FFV, then no thanks, FFVII, FFVIII and FFX were much better.
dude havent you seen the walkthroughs? Towns and NPc's are, side-quests as well as choices and monster capture.
FFXII while it was more open than your regular FF, its still not open world or free roam.
FFX had the right formula.
Dude, go play a final fantasy first. Thats how they are, they are not wide open, they just have multiple paths, corridors.

Whats your point? Mass effect is mainly an american franchise and sells well in america. Europe, middle east and Asia are pretty much oblivious to it.
Dragon quest 9 alone sold as much as the entire mass effect franchise on the consoles. Dragon age 2 flopped, the first one did ok. New vegas underachieved, the witcher 2 sold half a million. The only big boy on the block is The elder scrolls.

On the home consols FFXIII had so much potential, which will be met from what we've seen from FFXIII-2 interviews and gameplay videos, its a huge improvement and a game filled with content.
Versus XIII is showing to be amazing and unique
FFXIV is receiving a major rebuild through direct feedback.
Everything sounds great to me.
