As usual with MS there is a lot of room for spin in those comments, 'in the future' could be twenty years away. 'More true' so much wiggle room there it's scary.

No, it works fine, I have played F3 from release and up to just the other week, I have saves with hundreds of hours and all DLC complete.
If you were to do the install as mentioned above the stability improves drastically.
This is probably irrelevant now but when you first leave the Vault in Fallout 3, the game installs to the hard drive, usually this would happen while you were playing the game. Obviously that isn't the optimal way of doing it.
Instead as soon as you leave the vault pause your game and you'll see the HD light flashing like crazy for about ten to fifteen minutes.
When it stops F3 (on the PS3) will be as stable as any other version. Much less buggy too. ...
