I agree with you 100%. I want an engaging story where I'm pushing the narrative forward. Dicking around grinding to reach a higher level, or to attain gear is frustrating. I will do side quests if they are a smaller story within the larger story, but if it's time filling grinding, or a b.s. fetch quest, I want nothing to do with it.
On a side note, I can't stand resource or gear management either.
