blu ray has nothing to do with giving devs power. lol....This is an opinion of a fanboy. No developer has ever said...the "Power of blu ray" ....lol....lol....lol. But thats what sony fans do. Spread mis information and never have links to support their bogus claims. PC's always push the gaming community. Why aren't their any games on HD dvd or blu ray for computers yet? Is it because the ps3 using the old 6800 nvidia video card is more advanced than a cutting edge pc using th...

And who actually thinks sony put blu ray in their console for gaming purposes? Honestly. lol..... Get real folks. Its very slow and was put in to push their format onto consumers. Everyone knows that. Its common knowledge. But sony fans make it seem like its better for gaming. Its not. You will see. You've been duped folks.

And who says that? lol...Who says or supports anything you just posted? Or is that your opinion as a fanboy? Thats our point. You can have the biggest canvas in the world. But if you don't have the dev tools and hardware to match...you just have a big canvas with nothing to fill it with. Truth of the matter is developers that use up the blu ray disc will do so with HD cut scenes. Not with game code. Watch and see. PC's are a prime example. PC's use dvd9 but you don't hear anyone bas...

They do have to. And you know this. You know you would love for Sony to present some info that counters all the info saying the 360 is a better console for games. And they loose a fan every minute due to it. Unless Sony has no info to counter the Facts presented by MS, ATI, and independant sites. Think about it.

Ask yourself why you believe all the info on the net about the 360 being more powerful than the ps3 is not true. Honestly. Its like when you are a kid and someone says "my dad can beat up your dad". You deny it and claim the opposite because its "your dad". Your father is a God to you as a kid. Your dad is invincible to you as a kid. Its all in the way you choose to look at things. I can honestly say from everything I have read from sony side to Ms's side, that the ...

And who's to say the info you give is true? Sony? I post from many many many different sources. You post from Ps3land.com . lol.....Many of my posts have been from IGN, Gamespot, and Tech sites. You don't have to believe everything people say. But when you have many sites saying the same thing....you can come to a reasonable conclusion based off of info given. Sony has never had a problem rebutting any mis information. Why haven't they rebutted the head to head comparissons by Microsof...

No its not anti consumer to offer a core version for those who don't use online play. AS of now 60% of 360 users go online. But that leaves another 40% that don't. Why not give people who don't need nor want online an affordable option. Thus the 299 360. You get a 3 core cpu beyond Cutting edge cpu's. You get Ati console specific video card beyone anything you can buy in stores now. You get HD gaming experience for the price of last gen consoles. Its an option for gamers not needing a...

I agree. The 360 core may seem like a money trap. But you have to take into consideration that some people don't mind paying less money now and more money later. Its life. Credit Cards are a prime example. Car payments are a prime example. Less money now but more money in the end. There are different types of buyers out there. MS just covered their bases.

Of cutting edge pc's with 3 gigs of system ram and a 600 dollar nvidia 7950 video card vs the xbox 360 has been close. These are PC ports. They are made for PC's then ported to the 360. The cutting edge PC version beats out the 360 version by a small amount every time. I attribute it mostly to the fact that PC's use digital interfaces such as DVI and the 360 as of now uses componant. You do loose a tad...not a lot in the video. But the 360 version runs smoother and looks a tad better th...

Both the 360 and the ps3 are very powerful next gen systems. It will come down to the developers and the games that you want to play. But to say the 360 sucks or the ps3 sucks is just wrong. Both are great and both take advantage of new gaming tech. Which will produce the most amazing experiences is yet to be seen. Come Summer 2007 we will all know. But until then, be a gamer, enjoy great games. And stop knocking the other system just because you don't or won't own it. And there are a...

NVIDIA isn't saying that a unified shader architecture doesn't make sense, but at this point in time, for NVIDIA GPUs, it isn't the best call. From NVIDIA's standpoint, a unified shader architecture offers higher peak performance (e.g. all pixel instructions, or all vertex instructions) but getting good performance in more balanced scenarios is more difficult. The other issue is that the instruction mix for pixel and vertex shaders are very different, so the optimal functional units required ...

Given that the RSX is based off of NVIDIA's G70 architecture, you can expect to have a similar feature set later this year on the PC. In fact, NVIDIA stated that by the time PS3 ships there will be a more powerful GPU available on the desktop. This is in stark contrast to ATI's stance that a number of the features of the Xbox 360 GPU won't make it to the desktop for a matter of years (potentially unified shader architecture), while others will never be seen on the desktop (embedded DRAM?).

lol...I aim to inform....everyone can come to their own conclusions, just as long as the truth prevails. Many people didn't know that the 360 can do 1080p. Its just not a smart choice due to the hit on hardware.

Remember the 256GB/s bandwidth figure from earlier? It turns out that that's not how much bandwidth is between the parent and daughter die, but rather the bandwidth available to this array of 192 floating point units on the daughter die itself. Clever use of words, no?

Because of the extremely large amount of bandwidth available both between the parent and daughter die as well as between the embedded DRAM and its FPUs, multi-sample AA is essentially free at 720p and 1080p in t...

Conclusions

ATI took their Xbox 360 GPU project from the ground floor to a working piece of silicon in 2 years. It is obvious that that there is much more to this GPU than what is being shared with us here, but even considering just the features shared here, a 2 year project timeframe seems amazing. This can easily be considered a ground breaking GPU in terms of 3D gaming regardless of the platform.

We should expect to see many of the Xbox 360 GPU technologies shared wi...

Modeling Engine

The Xbox 360 modeling engine is frankly something that is really not explainable in layman’s terms. At least I am not smart enough to explain most of it. That said, I can share with you some of the things it does while being able to endlessly loop and manipulate shader data.

Some of the global illumination effects you might have seen in years past at SIGGRAPH have been put into motion on the Xbox 360 GPU in real time. For the most part, global illuminatio...

Keep in mind, ATI is not a stranger to adding memory to a chipset, but remember that this is “smart” memory.

The Xbox 360 Smart 3D Memory is a relatively small piece of DRAM sitting off to the side of the GPU but yet on the same substrate. The Smart 3D Memory weighs in at only 10MB. Now the first thing that you might think is, “Well what the hell good is 10MB in the world of 512MB frame buffers?” And that would be a good line of questioning. The “small” 10MB of Smart 3D memory tha...

Adaptable / Unified Shader Approach

First off, we reported on page 2 in our chart that the capable “Shader Performance” of the Xbox 360 GPU is 48 billion shader operations per second. While that is what Microsoft told us, Mr. Feldstein of ATI let us know that the Xbox 360 GPU is capable of doing two of those shaders per cycle. So yes, if programmed correctly, the Xbox 360 GPU is capable of 96 billion shader operations per second. Compare this with ATI’s current PC add-in flagship c...
