yea... they didn't realize it by making the first console with an included hard drive and making it a standard feature on most consoles.
They didn't include it in the 360 in box because they wanted to keep costs down because it was the biggest reason the original xbox cost so much to produce, and likewise made their gaming division originally unprofitable.
Microsoft didn't brag about it, they were actually quite pensive. Shown here before HD-DVD bit it.

Microsoft has been "trumpeting" DD since before the launch of the 360. That was one of the selling points of the 360 pre-launch. Also, the 360 has full game downloads in their xbox originals, and a 20gb HD is...
that was supposed to be under the next comment.
Last year from august to the end of the year, 3rd party multi plats had:
Rock Band 2
Mercenaries 2
Pure
Star Wars: force unleashed
Silent Hill
Dead Space
Far Cry 2
Legendary
Fallout 3
End War
CoD
Mirrors Edge
The Last Remnant
Prince of Persia
That was in one quarter of the year. In january so far, LotR, Skate 2, Fear 2, and Street Fighter 4 have been released.
That is a ridiculous...
I stand behind this whole heartedly. The third party multi-plat lineup for the past 2 years has outshone any exclusive lineup. To be quite frank, it makes the first party studios not as important as they used to be.
If I know I can still play 12/15 best games released in a year, I will still be perfectly happy. It makes price a much bigger factor than it used to be when consoles were made on their exclusive lineups, where there were maybe 5-10 games shared between platforms. We'r...
...just compare resident evil to uncharted?
they aren't even in the same genre! At least Splinter Cell and MGS4 (though still not really comparable as they play completely differently) were in the same genre when they were compared.
Xbox 360 isn't really slowing down. It's been going the same speed this whole gen. They've done the same thing every year keeping at least one heavy hitting title for later that year to announce at TGS, E3, or GDC, and not pushing games much until the 2-3 months before release.
Sony takes a different strategy, and starts showing it's games as soon as they can show favorably. It's been going this way since before the launch of all the consoles this gen.
It doesn't hav...
It would need to sell twice as many consoles as the 360 month to month. It is just not going to do that. It could put a huge dent in the margin, but it doesn't have the kind of momentum it needs to do that in one year.
It could sell amazingly well in all regions, and still not pass the 360 in one year.
You also have to consider that microsoft isn't going to sit there and let sony pick up momentum. They are going to continue to add content and price aggressively. They...
how you can write so much, and not even improve marginally in writing quality................
to his credit, there are less grammar and spelling errors, but this whole article lacks focus and flow. the paragraphs hardly make any sense as a whole body of work.
edit: to show my point I will make a one sentence summary of each paragraph.
-Killzone 2 is awesome, and it looks awesome, and here's a quote from a sony rep saying how awesome it looks.
-The...
you have to keep less games on your queue when you really want a new release. Do one of two things. Keep your games below 10, and make them all new releases or games you want to play at least almost as much as the game you want. Then you have to send back games strategically. Since you're on a 4 game plan, send back 1 or 2 games every day for the 2 days 3 days before the launch of the game you want.
That way, they should get the games the day before/day of the release of the new ...
Just because radical might not have proven themselves (in your eyes) I wouldn't say that they aren't capable of doing well.
I don't think they've really made many mistakes in the games they've made in the past 10 years, and since when have decent studios been immune to making poor games? Free Radical made time splitters and was founded by the people who made PD and goldeneye. They still crapped out haze.
almost every game ever made has it's own back story.
his writing is just so horrible... It's not even blog quality. It seriously hurts me.
I was reading it and thought it sucked, than saw his PSN id's and saw it was hydro1x and just went "oh... surprised I didn't guess that."
Seriously, get an editor. Hell, just read the article before you post it yourself.
Of the money spent on a game, only around 50% goes towards actual development. Most of the rest goes to publishing and distributing.
That is to cover the bottom line. Once games sell over the bottom line, microsoft might give bonuses, but all the profit over the bottom line should go straight into microsoft's pockets.
@darkride, NPD does use similar means to VGchartz, but their approximations are based on a lot more retailers, and they are usually much more accurate....
and many rare games are more creative than resistance, killzone, god of war, and heavenly sword.
Both systems have creative games. Especially when you include the titles from either system's arcade style content.
M$ does give them more than just a warranty. Many people get free games, M$ points, and free XBL out of it.
And the warranty was extended shortly after the original warranty ran out, and anybody that paid had their money refunded.
What else would you like them to do? The RROD sucks, but M$ has done pretty much all it realistically can to deal with it, and it's done a lot better than almost every other electronics manufacturer.
how are folklore and eye of judgement that creative?
One is an action adventure RPG and one is a trading card game that displays on screen. And every day shooter? It's a great game no doubt, but it's a shmup
I'd give you almost everything from pixeljunk, because those are great games, Eyepet I'd probably give you unless they mess it up, as I've only seen the promo trailer.
if you're including arcade/non-disc based games, I'd probably say braid, wik fable...
and when they got their consoles back in the mail, they just put them in the box from their brand new 360 and returned them.
More revenue=/=more profit
@above
what are you using as "real numbers" that makes them not numbers but a chart? NPD releases numbers, and M$, Sony, and Nintendo all release numbers. There might be charts with them, but I don't know any source I'd call "real" that doesn't supply the numbers.
Yea. Making hard drives a fixture in consoles, bringing online gameplay to a standard, allowing user created games to sell on their system with little moderation, being the first console to allow PC-console connectivity, and being the first console to be able to stream and download HD and SD television and movies really isn't anything important at all.
You take microsoft horribly for granted. Xbox Live is the reason that PSN exists. It's the reason you can download games and movi...
