I have the blockbuster online rental (Total Access I think it's called).
Two movies out, can return them to the store for a regular movie, a new release, or a Blu-Ray. Also can rent HD-DVD and Blu-Ray still online.
Price is in line with Netflix, but since Blockbuster is so close to me, I get more for my money this way.
(Also get a coupon once a month good for a free game rental!)
I'm not complaining - I'm glad they took it offline and fixed it. It was the right thing to do.
Even if the number of people like me that experienced issues and had to send in the ps3 to get fixed was very small, it was still the right thing to do by Sony.
So kudos to them - ... - now sent me back a working PS3! I am missing out on GTA and MGS action.
Unfortunately those of us affected by the 2.40 mishap won't be able to download and install 2.41 until our PS3's are fixed. My unit is on it's way to the local service center for a nice couple week holiday :(
My xbox 360 RROD once, and now my PS3 has also died on me - so to me, they are even in reliability.
Even if you don't use it as an HDDVD drive, a $5 external DVD Drive is pretty cheap. Wouldn't be a bad deal if you owned, say, a macbook air... although I'm not sure if the air would recognize the hd-dvd drive.. prolly not. Oh well, sounded like a good idea in my head.
Well, I'm not a member of neogaf, but if I was I would have had to post "Yes". See, there are those of us out there who got "bricked". And it stinks. Luckily, Sony is replacing mine gratis since it's less than a year old.
That wouldn't surprise me. Especially if it's a developer who has moved on to other projects. Now, I think CoD4 would merit some additions to it, since it is such a well-played game across all systems.
But I can see their point, too, I guess. Why take the time to add it in now when Sony didn't implement it right in the first place?
While a 2.41 update would be nice, I am in the number of people who now have to either a) remove the HDD and reformat a new one, or b) let Sony repair it for me. I'm taking route B. But for me, even if they do release 2.41, I can't boot my PS3 up to install it :(
Dang, now I have to replay Act 1 again in MGS... well, that isn't too bad. At least I've got practice now.
Here's what happened:
- downloaded 2.40
- Hit PS button, per directions
- Read screens detailing what this update includes
- Hit X to install
- Installs, reboots, get splash screen, but nothing else. No icons, controller won't connect, nothing. Nada. It won't work.
Call Sony, explain situation, they have me turn on/off bunch of times, they say I have to send it in. That is why Sony is repairing it. It directly has to do with the 2.40 u...
Someone is disagreeing with the fact that this firmware update bricked my ps3, although the Sony Support dude agreed with me and said they didn't have troubleshooting steps for it, and I'd have to send it in for repair?
I disagree with that too, but it's still the truth.
And no, I'm not alone. http://boardsus....
Called PS3 support and have to send it in for repairs.
This sucks.
Well for me I downloaded the entire thing, was told to hit the PS button, scrolled through some screens and finally hit "X" to install, and now it's at the cross media bar screen, no icons, just the wavy lines, and I can't do anything. Been this way for about 5 minutes straight.
FARK - looks like other people on the PS boards are having my exact same issue. PS3 is dead... booo.... DANGIT
I'm not going to replay all my games just to get the trophies, but look forward to the new releases.
And seriously, everyone is all happy about trophies now, but when achievements first came out, the Sony fans in here were saying how silly and stupid they were. My how our memories fade.
Home is not going to change anything, and I am going on record to say that I think Home (and the gamerpad idea, or whatever MS copied), is going to fail.
My 2 cents.
Okay, PLEASE don't use MGO as an example. You know how annoyed I was to have to use the PS3's brwoser, create a Konami ID and a Game ID just for this game, get it sent to my email, verify that I got it, and then have to enter it into MGS4 ... all before I could even play a freakin' online game!!!
That's silly. Just let me jump online, that's all I want to do. And you are going to say "Sony didn't do that, the developer did." And to that I'd say incorrect - Sony created ...
It's pretty easy to look at the current market leader and mimic what they do best. It's another thing entirely to do the innovation and try to stay one step ahead of everyone that tries to one-up you.
But, as someone else already mentioned, I don't like the movie download services. The prices ($6?) for a movie rental are too steep for me. i pay the Blockbuster online for about $19/month, and with that I get two movies in the mail that I return at the store for two more - my month...
While I agree this would be very neat, the difference in the PSP's button layout from the PS3's would make many games awkward or very difficult to play through remote play. Forget any SIXAXIS control.
Do you all feel validated? Your e-pride go up a notch? Yes? good, now go back to playing games.
