SC 2 sold 6 million copies, which is 40% of SC 1. I was surprised that SC 2 essentially underperformed. It’s shocking how a single micro transaction can make more money for a studio than a AAA-project. Unfortunately, I’m confident that microtransactions in Black Ops 6 will generate more revenue than most games released within 12 months of its launch.
No, I’m certain Warcraft and World of WarCraft are a single IP. The setting, characters and lore intertwine too much to be separate. Also, I think Quake would be closer to $ 1 billion than Wolfenstein.
I didn’t see the billion earning MS-owned franchises listed by the website. The site is also jumbled looking on mobile.
I heard a $15 horse DLC for WoW made money for Blizzard than StarCraft 2.
I would assume the list is:
From Acquiring ABK - COD, Candy Crush, Overwatch, Diablo, Guitar Hero, Crash Bandicoot, Tony Hawk and Warcraft (8)
From acquiring Bethesda: Doom, the Elder Scrolls and Fallout (3)
From Acquiring Mojang: Minecraft (1)
Internally fostered, or promoted from the beginning: Halo, Forza, Gears of Wars, Age of Empires and Flight Sim (5)
My guess the remaining three would be S...
I think people are reaching. Indiana Jones is owned by Disney, not Microsoft. Either party could have a say in the exclusivity of the upcoming Indiana Jones games.
I always felt that due to how Bloodborne ended, a sequel from a narrative standpoint isn’t necessary. However, the performance of Bloodborne, and the general dated look of FromSoft’s engine are why I think it should be remastered or remade. The game is also almost 10 years old.
The animated Netflix series is a sequel to Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Also, Netflix distributed this show, the company uses external production companies for most of its content. The show doesn’t provide a template for Crystal Dynamics [who was credited in production of the show], the Lara in the show is the one from the 2013 reboot series, and wasn’t reimagined for the show.
Sony doesn’t have to keep remaking/remastering their PS4 titles. People want new experiences. It would be hypocritical of me to say I’m against remasters. But did the Last of Us part 1 and 2, Horizon Zero, Until Dawn really need remasters ? Those previously mentioned games don’t really feel or look dated. Bloodborne, a title with framerate issues on the PS4 is the remaster people have been asking for.
I just bought Space Marine 2 on Series X, I’m enjoying the game very much. However, the surround sound in the game is broken. I’m forced to play the game in stereo. When played in surround, the game’s sound effects are muffled and voices are largely inaudible.
Alien Isolation [and the Dead Space series] is one of the few horror games that I’d enjoyed. I like the game’s atmosphere, complex enemy AI and overall stealth mechanics.
I find it odd that development costs of games aren’t publicly released like movies. You can predict the break even point of films by multiplying their budget by 2.5. Outlaws probably has a budget of over 100 million, 1 million units isn’t enough for it yo break even.
There wasn’t much hype for Star Wars: Outlaws. It also released when Star Wars was in a slump due to the poor public reception of the Acolyte. Ubisoft over relies on open world gameplay tropes. The company consistently relies on open world Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry games. People who are tired of open world games don’t get too excited for new Ubisoft titles. The game market is competitive, a company should expect to be handed sales.
I like that the Ghosts series is [potentially] becoming an anthology. You can make arguments for and against Jin’s story being complete.Regardless of which ending you chose for Ghost of Tsushima, Jin Saki became an exile. Since the series is based on Japanese history, the actions of Jin Saki don’t really influence potential playable eras.
Halo Infinite has had almost three years of support. MS will not support a multiplayer game long term that underperforms. Crackdown 3 and Red Fall lost support very fast. Conversely, Halo 5, Halo Infinite, MCC, Gears 4, Gears 5 and Sea of Thieves and Flight Simulator got years of updates post releases.
I thought spawns were influenced by engagement too? E.g. you get less favourable spawns when performing well than when performing poorly.
The contracting policies do cause a decrease in developer productivity. New contractors are continually having to adjust to new dev tools and workplaces. Once a contractor has fully adjusted to a studio and its development tech, they are often let go and replaced.

The remasters likely have nothing to do with the PS5 Pro. Jim Ryan diverted funds from single player focused projects into GAAS which back fired. The remasters can be produced faster than new single player experiences that Jim Ryan stalled.
If the $200 million budget is true, Concord likely got restarted a few times. The game didn’t launch with a lot of content. Maybe different builds were scrapped a few times? We have seen project “resets” inflate budgets and extend development time.
