Supposedly, the dev team was shocked at the negative reaction, so the wiiu version received an overhaul((this may have also influenced doa 5, which before hand was being touted by the producer to be going in a more "realistic" direction with the female cast)
Also keep in mind; Nintendo is publishing and aiding in development. Many of the changes and fixes are likely Nintendo advised and or funded, such as free cod.

I still find it odd that;
1) Despite yearly ds games NO ds/3ds version was made, especially with the capability to have CoD 3ds w/circle pad pro bundles
2) Despite Sony getting and Exclusive handheld CoD Activision couldn't be bothered to make it themselves, instead only granting the license
It all seems very suspicious to me...
It is actually funny; this isn't some rarity. Western games constantly break onto the charts. CoD, Skyrim and many others have done quite well for themselves in Japan. ^.^;
The support was dropped to make room for 3ds/wiiu development. Because Nintendo actually cares to support its new consoles from the start.

Nintendo expects to sell around 5.5 million wiiu by the end of March. Let's pretend they can manage this: If sales maintain, we are talking about 22 million by years end, and 44 million by the end of 2014, when the next ps/xbox will most likely release against a strong selling wiiu with a deep library.

Why should anyone care if PS3 crosses the proverbial finish line late? Unlike the ps3-ps2 and soon the ps4-ps3, The wiiu is backwards compatible to the Wii, making buying a Wii unnecessary. So of course the Wii will stop selling and let its successor take over, which it has been doing these past 2 years.

You are right, except in one aspect; software support. Devs and publishers at this point will.choose the system with the higher install base and higher monthly sales to make their games for. Less games means fewer sales which means fewer games... in an ongoing cycle.

In my opinion, the ten year life cycle doesn't mean much if your competitor replicates the same effect but with their new systems that sell well from the start instead of poorly at the gate and gradually better through life.

It certainly seems to be much improved from what has been said, but I'd wait for a few reviews before deciding.
Think about this; rather than investing in either handheld, especially the Sony handheld with a far worse legacy, they take a payout from Sony to stay away from 3ds(exclusivity to keep from competing with the vita version) Allowing them to watch how the 3ds does while making an immediate profit AND they make money on the CoD license they sold to Sony.
