Just take a look at the last three(numbered) FF games, X got rid of the world map and used a completely new fighting system. XI was an MMO and XII was the first game to use MMO elements for a JRPG with a new maps system, fighting system, changing weather, hunts/rare marks and a system that allows you to program your party AI.

The only thing that's really shallow is Itagaki's brain. Devil may cry fighting system may not be as deep as that of Ninja Guiden, but it sure as hell deeper than Dead or Alive fighting system, and that supposed to be a fighting game!.
So metal gear copy's anime cut-scenes and FF/devil may cry don't?
Oh! wait, did you just compared DMC cut-scenes with those of metal gear? I recommend that you play an MGS game before saying such a thing.

I think using a "look what can I deliver" marketing strategy would be better for them than doing the "look our opponent suck, you have no other choice but to come with us" strategy. It just make them look paranoid.
