It's the current favorite topic for debate! Lots of lunacy in here.

I'm more curious about what the landscape will look like after the holidays. The first couple of days doesn't really mean much.

Anyone who says and iPad is just an oversized iPod touch clearly hasn't experienced what the device has to offer. It is so much more than just a big iPod.

That was a nice article.

I just have the one account. I don't understand the need for multiple, but I suppose that people have their reasons.

60 million user accounts is probably the more accurate description of what Sony has achieved, because that's not all unique users.

But it really doesn't matter. Either way, good job Sony!

That's an awesome video!

This is why people hate Kinect. You can get hurt if you actually get up off of the couch.

Plus, the layers of dust and crumbs covering you while you sit on the couch and waggle offers extra protection.

Oh look! More Amazon.com cruft. I feel better knowing that Amazon.com is still selling stuff.

This thread has brought out every kind of number cruncher. It's great! It has those who say 360 is still way out ahead, those who like to align sales from release date to say that the PS3 has sold more, and those who just make stuff up to argue.

At the end of the day, does it really matter?

But it isn't necessarily indicative of the overall market. Nor do we know from the data how much volume Amazon.com is moving. Which means that Amazon stock level and sales ranks aren't valid for anything, unless you want to know how things are selling at Amazon.com.

Why is anything to do with Amazon.com stock levels or sales ranks newsworthy? Ever?

I know that people love to hate Pachter, but not releasing the game prior to Christmas could have an impact. The holiday shopping season is the time of the impulse buy.

We have to be careful that we don't assume that others have the same buying power that we do. Not everyone will be able to affort this game on release day. And not everyone who buys a copy of this game is going to be the person who plays it.

If it's on little Billy's Christmas list...

So the plan is to make you re-purchase all of the games you love instead of letting you play all of the games you love that you already own? Is that what I'm reading?

The gesture-based menu navigation is a bad thing because your arms will get tired?

It's going to be interesting to see if Microsoft can live up to the hype.

Ok, that was weird.

It's great that the discs are being stamped. What's the release date?

Considering the number of retail stores in the world, I would say that it is completely possible that there are 2 million sitting on shelves.

But that's not a bad thing.

When you take into account that there are between 250,000 and 500,000 sold worldwide in an average month, and that number can easily double come time for the holidays, that's really not very many sitting on shelves.

I knew it wouldn't be long before Kinect was out there forcing people to buy PS3's. I bet it was at gunpoint.

I get what you're saying, but shovelware on Wii is anything *but* a myth. Look at the boatload of me-too minigame collections on the system. That list alone screams trying to sell software with a flashy title but little substance. There are some great titles out there, like pretty much anything Nintendo published. And games like NBA Jam show promise.

I'm not trying to beat up on Kinect. I truly believe that it is going to be a commercial success. But I also think that...

I guess I would look to the Wii for an answer there. The only established "core" franchises on the Wii are from Nintendo themselves. We never saw the fight for "core" dominance.

With more than 70 million Wii's in the wild, how many established developers did we see try to establish "core" gaming dominance on the Wii? You can see lengthy lists of games from companies like Activision, EA and THQ. But we don't associate any of those big thir...

I think that people are going to buy Kinect because of the tremendous buzz that it is generating, much like the Wii did 4 years ago. Marketing matters, and Microsoft is showing us exactly who the market is with appearances at Macys and on Oprah and Ellen.

Contrary to popular opinion, I think it was proven with the Wii that the "casual" market, as it were, has a tremendous amount of buying power even if they aren't as loyal as the "core" crowd. When peo...
