It isn't worth the effort for an individual, but there are people and companies that make their living from pirating software. This is the kind of news that makes then stand up and take notice.
The PS3 will ultimately be hacked. There are people trying to do it just to gain the knowledge of the hardware and architecture. But inevitably someone is going to take that knowledge and do something bad with it.
Summer can't get here fast enough.
Load times are not really inherent to the hardware. Games like Uncharted don't have load times because the developer is able to reasonably predict where the player is going to go next, so it reads ahead in anticipation of that. Games like Motorstorm have load times because a large amount of data needs to be front-loaded for each track based on whether you lose a race or advance to the next track or whatever. It's been this way since the PS2. GTA III only had loading screens when you changed b...
Most people don't have sophisticated enough audio gear to be able to take advantage of uncompressed audio. Without a surround sound receiver all most people ever get is 2 channel audio anyway.
I hate waiting on games to install. Heavenly Sword has the forever long install, too. At least you only have to sit through that once.
I wonder how consoles are going to sell when they fall below the magic $299 number. The Core/Arcade is below that price but gamers know that it is gimped, so it isn't the hot seller that Microsoft was hoping for. When the PS3 and 360 get down to $299 for a full-featured console I bet this generation will really take off. It is still pretty young.
I'm not against requiring the HDD to play games. If someone wants to play online they really need the HDD anyway.
I noticed that, too. I reported the post that you were talking about. I don't see how it was left up and the one below it was deleted. That's just odd.
Revolutionary? Sims Online meets Second Life? So far I don't see much different about Home that really stands out except that it's never been done on a console.
Home is not a bad idea. It will attract users. But it isn't going to live up to the Hype, either.
I predict that I will tire of this after only a few hours. It's a great concept and it has the potential to build community. But as busy as my schedule is I intend to spend the time I have with my PS3 playing games, not wandering around in a world full of adolescents that are hitting on every female avatar they see.
I wonder if this game is any good?
Another "Wii is for kids" deal, huh? It's too bad, really. My opinion is that the Wii is for everyone. I don't know of anyone that can't pick up the remote and start playing, which is exactly what Nintendo was after. When I was younger I would have considered myself "hard core" like the kids today say they are. But like the comment above, for me Nintendo is video games.
My first console was the Atari 2600. At one time or other I have owned every console made s...
The Wii has great games. All of the great Nintendo franchises are available. Mario, Metroid and Zelda are there with some great new series such as the addictive Trauma Center franchise from Atlus. There has been a lot of static released with some less-than-stellar titles, but how is that different from the PS3?
What's ultimately going to happen is that the Wii is going to attain market saturation, but looking at how the PS1 and PS2 have performed in the past it could potentially sell another 80 million or so before it happens. People said that the DS touch screen was a gimmick and that the platform wouldn't be successful. But look at it today. With the right software the Wii could keep going. That's what it is going to take.
Link doesn't work for me.
You wouldn't. If it is probably more of a side effect than a feature.
Perhaps so many people are leaving their posts at Microsoft because the company needs new direction. Bill Gates' retirement is not a surprise. It has been in the works for a few years now. Everyone else is probably due to fallout from an internal reorg or something. That kind of stuff is necessary to shake out bad habits and get a company back on track. It happens everywhere.
I have 3 DS's in my house and I've never even heard of this chip. I think it's BS. Unless the massive sales of DS software is only 10% of what it could be without this thing.
One thing a lot of amateur number crunchers miss in terms of RROD impact is that there is a rotating pool of refurb machines. So you can't take 33% off of the top and say that they aren't sales. The truth is that nobody really knows what impact RROD has on Microsoft's Xbox 360 sales numbers.
But honestly, what does it matter? Microsoft is doing well. Sony is rapidly catching up and the Wii has left them both in the dust. The best position that any of us could be in is to own one ...
I really wish that people weren't sleazy and just purchased the games that they liked instead of trying to find ways to cheat the developers that make them.
