Well Nintendo doesn't seem to be doing that anymore as so far with Switch they are announcing games within the year they release aside from Fire Emblem 2018.
I mean they announced Fire Emblem Echoes for 3DS about 3 month before release. And this E3 they probably will do the same for Switch games.
It's perfectly fine to announce games that are at least two years away at MAX. Anything beyond that is not good.

-Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Remake either 3DS only, Switch only or both
-Pokemon Battle Revolution 2 or something like it for Switch.
-Poke Bank coming to Switch
Basically 2007 all of again like the Wii and DS.
-A small downloadable Pokemon Switch game that either cheap or Free2play
