Diversion is perhaps the wrong word. The FTC aren't 5-year-old kids who get distracted and just say "Oh, okay then, approved!".

It's strategy & tactics, nothing more and nothing less. If Switch/Nintendo gets COD, then it's a win for them.

It's rather naive to think this isn't already commonplace.

Read the agreements you accept the next time you boot up an EA/Activision/AAA game, or the agreements attached to your PS/Xbox and PSN/XBL account.

We know for sure the PS5 collects telemetry - there are options in the settings to reduce telemetry data, and some people have flagged it already: https:/...

Which country are you in?

If you're in the US, UK or Europe, it's in stock on PS Direct for those countries. They have the standalone one and the Horizon bundle.

They need more than great games, they need a miracle and a huge shift in mindset - the majority of gamers just aren't interested in VR and the format/medium. If Half-Life Alyx can't get everyone into VR, Horizon and GT definitely can't.

As for supply, PSVR2 is readily available.

Most big publishers already do this, I'm kinda surprised the platform holders aren't.

So it's going to sell LESS than the last one during its first 12 months? That's never a good sign.

And Omdia are also saying that's a very bullish estimate, so it could be less.

@Variant It was just a joke :P

But the FTC isn't there to 'stop Microsoft fumbling', they're there to ensure fair trade and competitive markets. If MS screws up a studio after buying them, that's on MS.

Saying it’s $40 is misleading though because that then sounds like there’s an $80 gap between that and GP at $120.

But since you cannot subscribe to extra only, and need the base subscription first, the only option is to pay the full price of essentials + extra.

Eh? PS+ extra is $100 a year, not $40.

@redemption Its laughable to say capcom or square are even close to COD or Activision. They are minnows by comparison.

How many people are willing to buy a $500 console for Capcom or Square games? Not many. COD on the other hand is a purchasing decision driver.

Also your revenue numbers are miles off, e.g. https://ww...

I mainly game on PS5 so 🤷

I normally do get COD on PC though for mouse and kb - although this year I ended up with it on PS too (long story).

What got me to that decision was simple - I play COD every year, for a lot of hours. The other games you listed are few and far between so realistically if I had to pick I’d go with the ones that give me the most hours of entertainment.

It would be more likely billions than hundreds of mil...

That’s a hard call to make but I do think I would go with COD.

I play cod for tons of hours every year, and it’s mostly good releases (with a few misfires like Vanguard).

Square and Capcom on the other hand have very sporadic releases and can be very hit and miss.

But if Sony were to make Square/Capcom games exclusive, MS could go nuclear and make COD exclusive which would financially devastate PS and ultimately affect all aspects of PS...

Would they really be losing much though?

Square are basically Sony exclusive at this point anyway.

Capcom only has a handful of games that release very sporadically, and some not even on Xbox (and they would still come to PC anyway).

And realistically, from a business perspective, COD is bigger than every Square and Capcom game combined.

You’re also assuming that Square and Capcom want to be bought.

Corrupt governments and politicians are all over, even here in the US, not just in South America lol.

Also, what’re you talking about? The article was submitted by a guy named “green” who hasn’t submitted any other news in 1918 days.

I'm assuming you meant the FTC and not Facebook :P

The former 'principal deputy assistant attorney general' of the DOJ, a guy who was behind the successful 1990's anti-trust case against MS was one of the ones who spoke out against bringing cases with little to no evidence:

"Things don't get taken to courts by government employees most of the time if they think they will lose."

That just isn't true though. The US govt and it's agencies lose cases against companies and individuals all the time. Especially the FTC, the FTC has a terrible track record in court, they've even lost to MS in the past.

The problem for the FTC is, most of their 'wins' occur when the company abandons the acquisition, ...

This is awesome. 2020-2022 were the years when the industry started taking this seriously & games started becoming truly accessible.

I think the odds of MS abandoning this are near zero, if not zero. They seem all in on it, and rightfully so - the cost of going through court etc is non-zero, but its small for MS, and small compared to the gains they would make by having ABK under their belt.

Plus, the cost of going to court is likely less than paying Activision 3bn to cancel the deal.

Part of me thinks this will be settled before going to court via an agreement between the FTC & MS...

I suspect Sony are in the process of buying them. Games where Sony have paid for exclusivity like FF7R and Forspoken I can understand, other games skipping the platform less so, especially when you look at things like Octo that was on gamepass.

However, if they are trying to acquire Square, the Activision acquisition may be a spanner in the works since Sony won't want to close on Square while that process is still going on since it would give MS ammunition - the first r...

@S2 And that's great and I respect your opinion - but you aren't the one handing out GOTY awards.

If GoW being good is 'hurting' a lot of people, presumably its hurting the majority of the gaming media too and there's a grand conspiracy going on? Otherwise, it would've gotten more awards.

Or perhaps there isn't a conspiracy among the gaming media and ER is just a better game overall. I'm not really one for tinfoil hat theor...
