Realism is overhyped in games. There's a delicate balance between what's fun and what's real, I'm not sure they're keeping the balance to pull this off. If skyrim didn't have fast travel or skill points i'm sure it wouldn't have been as fun.

not really, numerous games each year are given 9-10. Almost any popular franchise will be handed nothing below say ~8.5 and it can't be that all those games being made now are truly creative or advancing the standards.
I think its the rabid fanboism, that reviewers don't wanna catch the backlash for calling a mediocre game as such, so they pander to the crowd.

As a long time fan of HoMM, I gotta say its no where near a 9.4. It's not bad, the gameplay is a touch up from Heroes5, but honestly the story is horribly uninteresting and many of the levels are corridor like.
