Remote Play is compatible with the following operating systems:
Windows 8.1
Windows 10 or later
OS X 10.10
OS X 10.11

Well that lets me out since I run a Linux OS but since this app only supports up to 720p I prefer switching my PS4 to the second port of my monitor where I get 1080p.

Remote play via PC is a nice feature but I still prefer just connecting my PS4 to a HDMI display device. With my current set-up I can just use my ...

There is a saying in the IT industry. No matter how much storage a user is given they will fill it and then whine for more. 😉

How does a 15TB 2.5" drive that will fit in your PS4 sound?

http://arstechnica.com/info...

At least this would solve the storage problem for most people, well maybe a few weeks for some.

Why aren't I surprised to see a comment like that.

Do I hear $250 ... no! $200 ... no! $150 ... no! $100 ... no! Well how about free and we will throw in a Porsche 911 to sweeten the deal? 😉

While the comments you made are very valid it really is up to you to try VR mode as well as cinema mode for movies and standard games. Once you have done that only then can you make a decision. Remember that a VR headset is a personal display device.

Of course you can take the chance and pre-order but I personally don't think that is a good idea although I do think the first shipments are going to be sold out.

@cleft5

I do have a 55" 3D HDTV and I have viewed 3D movies which depending on your likes can really add to the enjoyment.

I have noticed that where I live 3D versions of the same content are usually 10% to 20% dearer so unless the show is exceptional most buyers are just going to get the none 3D version.

Personally I am not that much of a fan of passive entertainment, preferring interactive games instead. I have even played 3D games and...

For years it as always been possible to run Linux distributions and even Android under MS Windows. The reverse is also true on Linux.

Since I run Fedora 23 (latest stable version as per 3rd Nov 2015) the following URL explains how to install the Android Development App: https://fedoraproject.org/w...

Likewise there are plenty of guides on how to run MS Windows under ...

Well actually for years you could always run Linux under a virtual machine on MS Windows or you could run Microsoft Widows under a virtual machine under a Linux distribution. As for Android development you can also do that under a virtual machine.

Having shell language (which is what they are talking about) running on Windows 10 is nothing new either although I do think you would be hard pressed to find a Windows shell running under Linux or Unix.

There is no...

For your information Android does actually run on tablets (I have one) which can play pretty much all the smart phone applications, but they are a tiny percentage of the PC market. Android has over 80% of the smart phone market.

Actually no one really owns Linux although Linus Torvalds is the creator and principle developer.

I am one of the so called 1.78% (10's of millions) and I am not lacking in anything. Basically what people can do under Microsoft W...

>> If the UWP is going to be successful across multiple devices it has to be open, and full of features relevant to developers and consumers alike.

While I do agree with the spirit what you said the main common set of API's for game development on Microsoft Windows is going to be DirectX12 which is only available for MS Windows 10. I smell lock-in here, since when was DirectX12 an open API?

Well my Desktop PC has Fedora 23 (Linux) as it's primary OS. If I wan to run a different OS I just run it in a virtual machine. The thing is I don't have any compelling reason to run Microsoft Windows.

As for gaming I can run games under Google Chrome or in a virtual machine running SteamOS or by my preferred method on my BC PS3 and my PS4. I can even run many MS Windows based games via software compatibility programs.

You made a mistake it is slightly less then 2:1 in favour of the PS4 to the XB1.

3701d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Here's why.

As you are or at least should be aware that there is a massive push or in PR speak "initiative" to get most desktop PC users to upgrade to Windows 10 and this is a free upgrade.

Of course we all know that the upgrade is completely optional (cough! cough!). However if you are a gamer you basically have no choice to make the upgrade if you want games that rely on DirectX12 which is only available for MS Windows 10. Effectively you have...

@Lennoxb63

Déjà vu. That is exactly what Microsoft said when they were taken to task on being a Monopoly.

Have you ever seen a breakdown of the desktop market? Basically Microsoft owns the lion's share of the desktop with 91.32%, then Apple (7.22$) and Linux (1.46%).

If you are an avid PC gamer then you may not have much choice but to move to MS Windows 10 while the free upgrade is in place. Just wait until new games come out with minimum recommendation of DirectX12 only which surprise surprise will not be available for MS Windows 7 or 8, or 8.1.

Like it or not Microsoft will force you to move to MS Win 10 by saying its's for your own good coupled with lot's of very sugary incentives. Rather underhanded IMHO but that's Micros...

My recommendation to you is to do some research on the pro's and cons of MS Windows 10 verses earlier releases and then make a decision.

If you are an avid PC gamer then you may not have much choice but to upgrade however like any upgrade or rebuild please backup your important data. In addition please check that you can recover said data if something goes wrong.

A good test of a backup is to recover a few files to a temporary folder and check that there...

Not on my machines it does, but then again I don't run Microsoft anything and have not missed it for well over seven years.

Basically since the 1950's and I have a feeling before that you should always backup your important data prior to do any upgrade.

I never do upgrades basically I always make sure when I first build a system that the operating system is separate from important data, that way you can safely install, customise and update your OS without impacting your data. Of course that does not absolve you of backing up your data.

What I have just described here is what I...

With regard to the PSVR I don't think you are going to notice any difference between it running on a PS4 or a PS4K (whatever) since the only things I can see change for the PS4K is the incorporation of the three layer BluRay spec which only got ratified in Feb 2015.

See: http://www.techradar.com/au...

I don't have a 4k display either and since I do know that 8k displays are due out this year I don't mind a two to three year wait to get a 100" curved 8k TV since my 55" 200HZ HDTV works and looks fine.

The main new thing I am interested in is the PSVR which can play VR games and allow the wearer to play normal PS4 games as well as being able to watch movies and pictures in cinema mode.

Obviously I want to try the PSVR before I make a decisi...
