The HD standard is basically 720p, 1080i and 1080p. See the following for more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

In a nutshell when people talk about 900p they are effectively talking about 1600x900 pixels which is an aspect ratio of 16:9 which is the same as 1920x1080 pixels (1080i and 1080p) and 1280×720 pixels (720p).

Since 900p has the same aspect ratio as 72...

It depends on the game.

Having a good HDTV especially in this day and age is very important when playing a game on a console.

Even the so called golden haired PC gamer needs a decent monitor that will display what their PC will output. After-all it is rather pointless having a small (under 20 inch) screen which can only do 1080p @ 60 Hz when you want to display at game with all settings to ultra.

Basically if you have good game then screen s...

PC gaming is a mixed bag.

On one side you have the gaming rig which can produce stunning visuals and frame rates to monitors that can display them properly.

On the other side you have low end PC's that are in many respects only good for basic surfing of the web and playing simple games.

Between the low and the high end of PC's (I am also including laptops and tablets) there is every shade of grey and this is the main area where most P...

I don't think this is hate.

Basically when you play a game you want to have what is called and interactive experience. When you watch a movie or show then this is commonly called a passive or non-interactive experience.

Marrying up both interactive and non-interactive experiences very much depends on the person, some will like this others won't. Just having the ability to skip the show infers that the developers understand this.

I wou...

For many games cut scenes are usually there to hopefully enhance the story, however if cut scenes are two long the line starts to become blurred between passively watching a show and actively playing a game.

As and example lets look at The Witcher 3 which can have fairly long cut scenes, however in these scenes the main character appears in whatever clothing and weaponry that he wore before the start of the cut scene.

What is interesting about TW3 cut scenes ...

It depends on your display device as well. I have a 55 inch 200Hz 3D HDTV and a game playing to it at a solid 30 fps looks very smooth compared to the same game on a 60Hz monitor.

A 60fps game does look better but if you do get frame dips then it may not look as good compared to the same game at 30fps with a locked frame rate.

With the PS4, developers don't use DirectX since that is a suite of Microsoft proprietary API's.

It is hoped by some that Vulkan will be a grounds-up redesign effort to unify OpenGL and OpenGL ES into one common API.

There is nothing wrong with building or buying your own PC although you will be spending more when compared to console prices.

As for 30fps compared to 60fps well that is half the picture. You also have to take into account the refresh frequency of your display device as well, since a 120Hz or higher refresh results in a much crisper picture than a 60Hz refresh.

Now let's talk size. Yes size does matter for a gaming monitor be it overall screen size and o...

I agree and disagree at the same time.

If the rumoured PS4K can play 4K games then it would be well worth getting especially if the price was in the region of US$400.00 since that would be a feat of technical wizardry that goes beyond what most high end PC's can do.

What I see as more practical is incorporating a 3 layer BluRay drive and HDMI 2 since this would basically cater to movie buffs who want to play the latest UHD (4K) movies and at the moment th...

If you have a bit of technical know how and don't mind doing a little research then building your own PC is a more practical way of going. Sure it may be a little bit more expensive but you are going to get exactly what you want within the constraints of your budget.

Personally I have found that building your own desktop is actually cheaper when compared to top of the range desktops.

Note: I said Desktop not portables like laptops or tablets. If you want...

If anything this is what the PS4K will most likely do.

BlurRay players that are supporting three layer BluRays disks are now on the market. Why not a PS4K which just has three layer BluRay support and HDMI 2.0 or 2.1. Basically nothing really would be changed with the PS4 except it would now appeal to movie buffs that want to play three layer BluRay disks. This actually makes more practical sense cost-wise than some of the other rumours that are floating about.

Are you sure you would not mind getting an 8K screen instead of a low resolution 4K TV.

That depends on what the so called rumoured PS4K specs are. If a US$400 PS4K can play 4K games then a miracle has happened and it would be well worth getting.

Other than that what we may see is a three layer BluRay player and HDMI 2.0 connector of which you would only be justified in buying if you had a large screen UHDTV or 4K monitor and were a movie buff.

Until the so called PS4K or PS4.5 is officially confirmed then it is a rumour, although it would definitely make sense for Sony to change the BluRay player to work with three layer BluRays which became ratified just on a year ago and only now the enhanced players are hitting the market.

As far as 4K support goes the PS4 and even the XB1 can play 4K content either from file or by 4K content on a two layer BluRay disk.

For true UHD or 4K support you should hav...

Then you should be waiting for 8K displays which are due out this year. Admittedly 8K will be initially expensive but they will come down in price and depending on screen size 8K will become the preferred screen resolution.

It will be interesting to see what graphics cards will display 8K games.

The PS4 can play 4K content now. The only thing it can't do is play 3 layer 4K BluRay disks since the standard was only ratified just on a year ago and it is only now that 3 layer 4K BluRay players are appearing on the market.

Admittedly the PS4's can't play 4K games but then again only some top end PC's with expensive graphics cards can barely do that so Sony would have to do some real magic to produce a PS4K that could play 4K games while still making the co...

If you are willing to wait two years why bother with 4K. The new 8K displays are hitting the market this year and while initially expensive will drop in price fairly rapidly to the point where 4K will be sidelined.

Actually it's a bit more complicated than that. When you view a screen your face should be far enough away from the screen such that you can not see or can hardly see the pixels. Not only that but to avoid eye-strain your eyes should be able to take the in the ...

You should be aware that the 4K BluRay specifications were only ratified just on a year ago and it is only now that the three layer BluRay players are hitting the market.

It is quite possible that the so called PS4K will support the new 4K BluRay standard which would probably mean some minor performance improvements.

Also the costs between the PS4 and the PS4K would not be that great, with the PS4K probably costing about US$400 which would put it on par with...

There are a few static and dynamic themes for the PS4 that are free. Many of course you do have to pay for.

It really boils down to what themes you like and if they are really that important over playing a game.

Don't know about that.

I would at lest expect a Nintendo take-down on the product since it probably infringes copy right.

Still you never know Nintendo may think this is a form of flattery and good advertising. 😉
