The story is known by many people actually but still it its meaning is much less understood.
The point behind the story is that companies only care about profit. If it had been profitable for both N. and SONY they would work together. If it were now profitable SONY and say Microsoft to cooperate they would gladly work together to make money.

Vista is actually a flop - not because it has any serious flaws especially with SP. It's a flop because it too many people simply can not hae it work properly on their older computers.
Still MS did a great job with XP so I hope they know what to do to make W7 a good system.
