3D metroidvania just means a metroid/Super Metroid/Castlevania:SoTN style game progression in a 3D space (exploring to find something in a less than linear style then figuring out how and where to use it to progress) It does not mean having to do with Metroid/Castlevania. Castlevania wasn't metroidvania until SoTN, and Lords of Shadow is not 3D metroidvania in the least bit. Many argue that Metroid 2, Fusion, Prime2&3, and Other M aren't Metroidvania either, but I wouldn't kno...

@Anthony The differences between keys and powers, in this context, is negligible. The point of relevance is that you have to explore to find it, then figure out how and where to use it to progress.

Thankfully, no one gives a s***. Can we please stop pretending that this the late 19th/early to mid 20th centuries.

Classic RE has been described as metroidvania or 3D metroidvania for a long time. This comment section has lost its damn mind.

No, it doesn't

"No. It's survival horror."

The two are not mutually exclusive. Metroidvania level/game progression is actually a hallmark of early survival horror.

Metroidvania refers to a specific level/game progression style. The term has been used for a long time to describe games like classic RE, System Shock, Alone in The Dark etc . The devs even said they are maintaining its "metroidvania style of gameplay".

That's the problem with having him constantly on your heels. Whats worse is when you figure how easy it is to dupe him. Not to mention if he whiffs a punch, you got time to take a smoke break before he gets back to pursuing you.

It's not a step back, it's just different.

I would have started with far behind the back then gone to a side angle from Leon's right as he got closer to the store, then switched to face Leon from a bit of a distance and slightly above as he entered the store (To be clear, the camera would be positioned inside the store). At this point I would have broken with tradition and had the camera pan right to follow Leon as he moved around the aisles to the door with injured cop. When he got to the back hall, I'd place the camera mid h...

I forget its there too until I go into MKX practice mode and I'm constantly accidentally resetting position while trying to practice/figure out combos. Its a pain in the ass.

For real. Getting stuck in an RE game is a rare joy nowadays. Savor it. Figure it out. When you do, you'll understand why a lot of old schoolers played video games.

MK9 was the best one. My only complaints were cheesy combos like punch, dash, punch, dash, punch, special move, bad animations, and funky character models.

@FinalFantasyFanatic Shadow Of The Colossus ps4 doesn't have any assets from the ps2 original. Everything was recreated from the ground up. In other words, there was nothing to remaster. Its a straight up remake.

Comparing Final Fantasy to Persona, sales wise, is just daft. The idea that Any new Final Fantasy wouldn't sell millions upon millions, even with a TB or ATB combat system, is the finalest of fantasies, as Jim Sterling put it.

Its not stretched. All of the ps2 AC games were built to run in widescreen mode.

Is AC5 dropping on the 18th? Would be nice if they dropped 4 and Zero as well. My ps2 controllers are jacked up.

What immerses the player more in horror games is dependent on the individual player. For some its the controllable camera or first person view. For others, like myself, we find fixed and/or dynamic camera angles more immersive.

The limited technology argument is fallacious. They were limited to fixed cameras because they went with 2D pre-rendered backgrounds. That same limitation would exist nowadays if they went 2D pre-rendered backgrounds. There were games back then that were rendered in full 3D that had behind-the-back cameras. Silent Hill was fully rendered in 3D but they still mostly used a mix of dynamic and static fixed cameras because it suits horror so well. MGS 1&2 were also fully rendered in 3D. In al...
