This was a great direct IMO, packed with game announcements.

I'm glad to see this coming to Switch, Smash this year, Splatoon 2 SP expansion and loads of other stuff announced before in the last events gives me tonnes to look forward to.

Still need to buy Bayonetta 1&2, not sure whether to preorder Kirby Star Allies and since I don't have a Wii U DKTF is a must as well.

Nintendo are killing people's bank accounts just li...

AMD GPUs already feature API specific commands within their hardware, Retail products, along with PS4s, XB1s and custom units made for preassembled PCs have them as standard.

Eurogamer mistyped in their original XB1X hardware deep dive, they then went on to correct themselves with official statements from the hardware architects that worked on the 1X and other XB1 systems.

Basically 1X has a few refinements, but nothing to the extent you're claiming c...

@Goldby: Exactly, Naughty Dog turned the game around in less than a year and they rebuilt Uncharted 4 from scratch in a few years.

I personally don't think TLOU is coming this year, perhaps in the first half of 2019.

There just isn't anything official from Naughty Dog saying for certain either way. No need for people to make stuff up and not give any proof to support their claims.

Do you have a link to support that?
I haven't seen anything from them stating that explicitly.

I seem to recall Ghost being slated for 2018, though Sony do have a lot of exclusives coming to PS4 this year, so it's not like they need either to release this year.

Agreed, there's definitely a market for them and the profits they generate can help fund more new games.

Switch seems to be getting a great mix of new and older games.
Ninty can keep them coming.

Broadband simply isn't ever going to be reliable enough to take the place of physical hardware hosting games in people's homes.
It's too much of a gamble when platform holders know the hardware based business model works and they know gamers will buy a system and buy games for it.

It's what has worked and what continually works each generation.

Maybe cloud gaming can be an addition to consoles, pc, mobile etc, but it won't be ...

Says the service is working in the UK, I've had no issues with my PS4 since well before Xmas last year.

I haven't commented on N4G for a while, been busy with life and playing games in my free time like HZD, Wipeout OC, TLG, R&C, my Switch (got Zelda, Mario, S2, SM+R:KB and MK8 DX so far), but it seems a common thing for the Labo Naysayers to ignore that there are games in each bundle.

This is certainly not just cheap Cardboard, the Variety Kit includes 5 different games, each a kit you can make, with other parts included and a game card.
The Robot set seems ...

We've had this chat before on n4g and as with last time you ignore that Switch actually uses more power than the FX-9800p, plus it's a 28nm part, I actually said that AMD can move to 16nm.

A handheld could have lower Resolutions in portable mode, reducing power demands.
Power requirements are going to drop drastically at 16nm, a PS4 in a Switch sized enclosure is achievable without increasing heat over what Switch already produces.
Sony can also us...

AMD's FX 9800p only uses around the same level of energy as Switch and it's packing a little under half the performance of PS4's GPU, but it's CPU is a fair bit faster.

That's a 28nm chip, moving to 16nm, with newer architecture would undoubtedly reduce power consumption, while allowing the chip to produce PS4 performance in a portable.

Using a similar size to switch you could have a few hours of play time.
If Sony wanted more...

499 would be insane value for money, even 599 would be great, especially if that included the camera, move and VR Worlds.

A price cut to 349 for Pro seems like the obvious answer or maybe bundle in a few games that have Pro support for 399.

@ImGumbyDammit: The thing is your insisting this must be true without any actual shipment data for Xbox One X.
We know what Sony sold because they've told the world, they pushed 9.7 Million units in Q3 of 2016, sure that was partly prior to Pro's launch, but most console sales are happening when the major games and deals start, like Black Friday.
Sony sold at least 7 million units from BF onwards until Dec 31st 2016, so we can make an educated guess that 1.4 million ...

@10th Rider: I mentioned Laptops because there are some very thin form factor models now that pack all of the tech in question into a very small area.

BTW Sony doesn't have to go as small as Switch, they can have a bigger screen and still accommodate Bluray Discs, along with a hybrid HDD, there's also the option of having a dock with the Bluray Drive at home, but requiring a thicker and wider unit, with potential added length is no problem when people are OK carryin...

It would make sense, Laptops can have Bluray Drives and more powerful processors than PS4, modern parts take care of cost and power consumption issues.
Hybrid drives and sufficient RAM pools solve the issue of storage.

A 28nm FX 9800p AMD APU is close to half the perf of PS4, using around the same energy Switch, at the same voltage, manufactured using a 16nm FinFET node would probably allow PS4 levels of power at slightly above Switch.

It's p...

Not really, the PS4 ecosystem has more and better games, the hardware is also better value for money and technically it's been better up until the X releases, but that doesn't change the fact that Sony have dominated on that front since 2013 to October 2017.

It would be easy for Sony to make an overclocked Pro, add more RAM, a 4K Bluray Player and completely nullify Microsoft's expected tech advantage this Fall, Sony will continue to dominate regardless because ...

The reason why is to make more of their superior lineup and also to remain in the lead on the technological front, it also wouldn't require a huge financial investment to make better (than base PS4 or XBox One/S) use of the SoC they're already including in PS4 Pro.

For Microsoft it's actually the games crown that they need, hardware isn't really going to have an impact on their position in the market. Point here is that Sony already has the games to sell the...

TBH with more mature manufacturing nodes it's possible efficiencies could be gained allowing for higher clock speeds, but lower power consumption with Pro's SoC, add in more GDDR5, a 4K Bluray Drive and perhaps a faster HDD and Sony could make a cost effective upgraded version of the Pro, it all just depends on whether Sony feels it would be worth the effort.

Pro's GPU is technically underclocked compared to the RX 480/580, running at 911MHz, there's no rea...

This is one of the most stupid statements I've seen written as a headline for a video game article headline in ages.

Sony are already winning, because they own the global mindshare of the console market, they have laid the most solid foundation of all three platform holders.
Sony wins either way, if they stick with just the base PS4 and the Pro they have the largest install base, with the biggest library of exclusives, the most diverse library of games and thei...

@pinkcrocodile75: No Man's Sky wasn't cancelled and it isn't a PS4 exclusive, the IP is owned by Hello Games, who are an independent, private, self owned developer.

FYI Hello Games released NMS, sure they made promises that were supposed to be delivered at the game's launch, but despite falling short in many gamer's eyes they've continued to work on the game and improve it to fulfil those initial promises.

Well they teased something at the PS4's reveal, but they didn't officially announce Dreams until E3 2015, at that time they basically started showing what could be done with the tools they'll be delivering with the game.

Dreams is basically a suite of digital creation tools that will let anyone make anything they can think of in a digital environment, from 2D/3D Models, Animation, Movies, Music, Levels and right up to full blown Games.
