Staying away from the format wars arguments and just focusing on the question: Microsoft have so far approached the PR of Xbox Scarlett using traditional methods, they pre-announced on their E3 stage at 2018, and then more fully at E3 2019.
This generation Sony have revealed their new console and details via a website interview, good or bad this is definitely a different approach.
With hindsight, more people would have taken notice if this good news was released a day earlier.
@Apocalypse Shadow - perfectly said. This 'overthrows' headline is not only clickbaity, it also reveals the strong bias of the writer and the VentureBeat website. In what universe is console success measured by the amount spent on advertising? So to use the word 'overthrows' is to indicate that Microsoft has been triumphant over Nintendo, normally indicating sales success. However this story is NOT Microsoft's fault, it is VentureBeat's fault who want to present a s...
Microsoft put their prices up after the game has been reviewed. Then Eurogamer gets the exclusive story which doesn't criticise Microsoft but EXPLAINS the prices rise to people who are too stupid to understand that it's necessary.
Shame on Microsoft. But the bigger shame is on Eurogamer for writing this apologist crap defending MTX price rises.
Two similar themed articles in one day, this place is going full-on Reset Era.
Only 3 million players when the game is effectively being given away for 'free' or very cheap with Game Pass indicates that the Xbox install base is much lower than what experts have guestimated.
Stupid article that tries, and fails, to score points by moralising against YouTubers.
The Verge: “the series is an absurdist extension of first-person shooter logic: an alternate reality where every problem, no matter how petty, must be solved with guns.”
I suspect they will complain about driving being the only way to play Gran Turismo and Forza next.
Vox Media (The Verge & Polygon) have seen their business threatened by the success of gami...
So according to these figures, by the new year the Nintendo Switch will have outsold the total number of Xbox One consoles. Impressive. This is despite launching 4 years later and being less powerful. I suspect a big part of it’s success is it’s exclusives.
The business model for many of these websites like Kotaku, Polygon, Vice and VG247 is to deliberately create a false controversy to stir up readers so half feel outraged at the injustice and the other half get angry at the stupidity of the article and they don't care because they've got more clicks!
-But the long term negative is that visitors stop trusting them and stop coming. Look what happened to the other game websites that closed this year.
Erik Kain has revealed which side his bread is buttered.

@OldGuyStillGaming “So far for me it’s been pretty good.”
Damning with faint praise.
"Xbox One is the market-leading platform for... most chainsaw kills!"
@Rachel_Alucard. Your statement is FACTUALLY INCORRECT. UK VAT is included in the final price of every item for sale. It's not possible for a company to choose to withhold tax being included in their products and then to add it at a later date. If there is a price increase of the product then clearly it is the decision of the publisher.
Ryan McCaffrey is the IGN Xbox editor and podcast host and the biggest Xbox fanboy there is. When somebody from IGN made a joke about Xbox on IGN's twitter account he made a sycophantic grovelling apology to Microsoft! Not professional.
So if Ryan McCaffrey isn't given this game full marks but gives it a 9/10, it means that's it good but not a top-tier game. A normal reviewer would likely give it 8/10.
@ginganinja. You misunderstand the point of my post completely - this is not about you or I taking sides with the alleged abuser or the alleged victim. This is about the games media recognising that they should report on allegations - but must do so professionally. The reporters on these games websites were not witnesses to the relationship but by declaring one vulnerable person guilty he likely saw no path to clear his name. In actual newspapers in the UK, real newspapers would not be allo...
The games media websites need to recognise the role they all played.
They all wrote about Zoe Quinn's claims without using proper journalistic standards of objectivity - instead, they wrote about the allegations as if they were proven facts. Why? It is okay for individuals on the internet to have an opinion and believe one side or the other but it's not okay for a professional 'journalism' website. This led to mounting pressure on a vulnerable guy who was being attac...
‘Water is wet.’
It’s one of those rambling Forbes contributor articles that has been written to fill space but adds almost no new original thought or opinion. Except to say that people like playing Switch games on the go and Nintendo’s low-key Directs are effective marketing.
I'm happy that the response to this has been positive. But Xbox Unlocked saying it 'restores first-party order.' I would say 'one swallow does not a summer make.'
SPOILER: The standard Xbox One version comes out on top.
“ ridiculously good role-playing in a capitalist hellscape.”
Polygon take the same game that the other websites have reviewed and instead of focusing on telling readers whether it’s good or not twist their review into a politicised message criticising the societal and cultural system that allowed the game to be made.
