Not only does Microsoft have a slew of 1st party studios specializing in massive RPG’s with depth and lore, they apparently also are working on 3rd party exclusive RPG’s as well. Good luck to Sony in keeping their RPG fanbase from jumping ship to Microsoft.
Is it me or does the Washington Post more times than not generally shit on Sony games? Could be mistaken but I could have sworn they gave Uncharted 4 a 4/10 and pissed a lot of people off because it dropped the score on metacritic a point

They don’t rely on the same franchises repeatedly as well? I am critical of Sony because I want them to be better, but give me a break they heavily rely on Naughty Dog with Uncharted and The Last of Us, Santa Monica for God of War, Insomniac with Ratchet (until Spiderman recently) and Sucker Punch with Infamous (until Ghost recently). That’s the issue, I’ve been following Sony since my childhood, something is seriously wrong with their President and CEO (whomever Jim Ryan reports to) as he has never and will never expand in terms of buying out Square or Capcom. As smart of a move it would be for their long term strategy. Square’s IP alone would set Sony up for at least a century and not only for their gaming division.
Yup and with Sony’s unwillingness to invest in major acquisitions, leaves Msft to only have to outbid them for timed exclusives now. Sony plays it wayy too safe.
I’m grateful that they at least try to be this ambitious. Games from major publishers are becoming stale in terms of core gameplay loops so it’s much appreciated to see them make this attempt.

Rogue Galaxy was also an amazing RPG IP with space aspects. I actually think it holds up much better than Dark Cloud. Just didn’t have as much variety in terms of gameplay as DC
Could also use more RPG’s in general funded by Sony. Something to compliment Xenoblade and what Msft has cooking

As much as I want to agree with you Sony has done nothing but prove how cheap they are and have proven nothing to make anyone feel otherwise. They barely bought Insomniac, and for a steal (albeit the deal didn’t really come with any beloved IP since Sony already owned most of what Insomniac makes, so one could argue 229 million was a fair price).
That was in the past dude. Microsoft has 23 studios working on all genre types from huge epic 100+ hour RPG’s to AA first person shooters. So while nothing has been released yet to prove anything, as someone who has followed Sony since PS1 I am extremely disappointed in their minimal studio numbers and constant action adventure title games. Them being the market leader they should be making games like Square Enix, CD Project, Bethesda, etc. make.
