It's not a case of whether Evil Within will be good or bad. It's about whether that game will set the right tone. The trick with horror games is one of atmosphere not quality of play. IGN, Destructoid, Polygon have all noted the game lacks scares - kind of vital component for a horror game.

Evil Within may well be a good game, but will it be a good horror game?
I'm just coming off a three season Walking Dead marathon. I couldn't possibly play this game after that. Thanks goodness it's still a while away.
Sometimes I think with products like this, its a marketing exercise. Its about showing it can be done. Like the Bugatti Veyron. VW makes no money on that car, actually selling it at a loss, but the marketing and engineering knowledge gleaned from its development can be invaluable.
The media were pretty upbeat about Human Revolutions, but there was huge contingent of Deus Ex One fans that weren't expecting much.
And, yes, while Human Revolution wasn't perfect it, did receive critical praise and sell over 2 million copies.
It was my pleasure. That's a particular bugbear of mine as well.
That's the part that worries me most. I feel bad for Microsoft SA's PR machinery if we do end up with an exorbitant price like that.
Because they're the ones that are going to have to grin and smile while telling how awesome X1 is and how it's totally worth the price, when they know in their hearts it totally isn't
I sincerely doubt the actions of one forum poster had any impact on EA's decision making.
True. But Sony aren't trying to stop people buying X360s and PC. They're trying to get people to upgrade to PS4.
Did you read the article? That's the whole point. Those games are multi-platform, but the adverts are pushing the fact that they're on PS4 and completely ignoring the that they are multi-platform.
Its a subtle marketing trick to associate those games with PS4 and not Xbox One.
Epic fail is perhaps a bit harsh. It did last 3 years. But I glad it tanked. The alternative would have been just too unbearable to contemplate
Its two minor roles. If you download the scripts you see its for "Villager" and "Seneschal". A Seneschal is basically a fancy word for a butler/manservant.
It has actually been done before. I remember a similar competition was held for an RPG called Sudeki on the OG Xbox.
I'd just like to point out, that I never said the story was boring, I referred to that as a "novel premise". My problem isn't the story, my issue is that the gameplay look overly familiar. As in, I've played third-person, cover based shooters to death. I was hoping to something new.
I'm not say The Order is going to be bad, just that it's gameplay appears unoriginal.
Why would encouraging the inclusion of greater diversity in character types lead to stifled creativity? Why would that suddenly make them tokens.
Are you telling me that writers don't have the skill to craft well-rounded characters and then to make them female, or black, or Philipino or whatever?
You're missing the point. This game allows players to create there own character and is excluding the option to make that character female. In the game's you mentioned, creating you own character is not an option. And doesn't need to be.
I'm not arguing that male characters should be replaced by female ones. I'm saying that in a game that allows the player to create their own character, it makes no sense to exclude the female gender.
I always wonder if mac owners actually care about gaming, for I have yet to meet a mac addict with any interest in video games.
No that's actually irrelevant. Well not, irrelevant, but not nearly as important as game availability. Most iOS, or even Android, users will never have a need for this. The games made for these devices don't require them, hence the gamers that use them, won't require them either.
i've heard that opinion before, but I don't see it. Does every game where you can craft suddenly have to be Minecraft?
I'm a bit cynical about this. I sure the game will be immense fun, but I doubt it will be as seemless, and real as the claim. These things never are.
