In my case i read multiple user reviews and read what the features of the game are and regardless of the score i choose the game based on the features i recognize i would like.
For that end i read reviews with scores like 8 or 7, so far it has worked wonders.

Persona 3 MC and Aigis is the best couple i have seen in videogames.
Pyramid head but the SH2 version, the movie version is not scary at all.
The childs of the first SH and AiTD TNN zombies are really scary.

Persona 3 both the answer and the Journey endings are better than most of the list, those made me cry.

Persona 4 is one of the best JRPG in today and previous gen.
I suggest Growlanser Wayfarer of Time from ATLUS, a great JSRPG with over 40 endings variations, cool non grid battle system.
