The gold plated and static etc are just gimmicks passed down from old Analog cables like TV arial or Scart which suffered from inteference.
HDMI (think USB) is a data cable. It either works or it doesn't. There is no sigbnal (and hence picture and sound) degradation. It's just data.
Do a Google search and look on some AV sites. The ONLY people who will tell you the expensive cables are better are Salesmen.
